Guu Izakaya is a Japanese restaurant in the Parkdale neighborhood of Toronto.
“Just been there for the first time and completely unaware of Japanese Cuisine and also being a vegetarian I didn't have any clue of what I was gonna get and the Server Isagi or Igasi ( sorry if I did mistake the name) she was so helpful and even though she was busy and probably only one server, serving all the tables plus making the drinks. She did an amazing job of taking care of us plus bringing food on time. Thankyou so much for the service and great experience. Would definitely recommend people to try this place out. Igasi deserves a raise!!🥳”
“I visited Guu Izakaya after a second round elsewhere because I was in the mood for a few small plates and drinks to end the night. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not very crowded for a Friday night, which made the atmosphere feel relaxed and easygoing. One downside, though, was that parking nearby was extremely difficult to find, so be prepared to spend some time looking for a spot. The menu selection was a bit limited, and there weren’t too many dishes that stood out. Out of everything we ordered, the miso cod was definitely my favorite — it was flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. The other dishes were decent but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, I’d recommend Guu Izakaya more as a casual late-night snack and drinks spot rather than somewhere for a full dinner experience.”
“We wandered down Queen Street after finishing a wonderful float at Float Toronto, looking for a place with the warmth and relaxed atmosphere to match our chilled state of mind. We came upon Guu and we knew it was the right spot for the evening. The menu, though simple, was very fitting for an Izakaya. In addition to the sushi and sashimi, there were some popular Izakaya fares. We ordered the medium tuna belly and sea bass sashimi, chopped salmon sushi and they were all wonderful. The truffle fries and fried oysters were the companions to my Japanese draft beer. The Wagu beef carpacio was outstanding. The udon was served in a hot stone bowl. It was tasty but could have more interesting ingredients. Overall, it was a good dinner and we had a good time there.”
“We had a quick dinner before the show here and overall enjoyed the experience. The server was a bit cold and disengaged, but to their credit, the food and drinks came out quickly - though we were the first and only guests in the restaurant at the time. We ordered a few Sapporo and shared several dishes: the Kale Gomaae, Karaage Chicken, Ebimayo Beer-Battered Prawns, Gyoza, Harami Steak, and Guu Fries. Every dish was quite good. The fries were extra crispy, the prawns had the perfect batter-to-shrimp ratio, and the kale was nicely seasoned. The Karaage chicken came in large, juicy pieces, and the steak portion was generous and tender. The only dish that fell a bit short was the gyoza, which was just average compared to the rest. Prices were reasonable, portions were solid, and it’s a quick, uncomplicated spot for a casual Japanese meal before a show or night out.”
“I came here with a group with reservations. There was 4 of us on a Saturday for dinner. We did family style and ordered a bunch of dishes to share. My favourite dishes were the harami steak, baked oysters, karaage, udon and seafood pancake. We did sake bombs x3 and they have a loud cheer including restaurant participation to bring you to chug them down. Service was great, and the atmosphere was lively. There is a bar where you can drink or order food, dining tables, booths, and high tops. I would come back to try other things on the menu.”
