“We happened upon this little gem when we were passing through Viroqua and decided to pop in. My son had the cheese burger and I had the walleye fish fry. Both were delicious and the walleye was perfectly cooked. They were pretty busy around lunch time, but the staff and cooks were facilitating quickly so no one had to wait long. I highly recommend giving them a try!”
“OK, this place is well known already and after first glance of the menu I was about to turn around and find someplace less expensive but then I remembered if I’m traveling solo eating at the bar is a friendly place and I also remembered they have good pizza and then I see the special of the day pizza they have and am intrigued hell I can’t even comprehend half of the stuff in the ingredients list, but the result was an amazing experience. Not sure if the picture conveys. They first sent me at the “group table, which was kind of lonely since there was only one group of a male and a female deep in there togetherness so then once somebody left the bar, I asked if I could move and they graciously allowed me to get over there and then I could chat up the bartender and talk about Pond Hockey and the weather important things like that and pass the time pleasantly Nice to see the place was full of people. Everybody looked like they were having a good time. Had a good vibe.”
“My photos tell the tale, super delicious! Very generous portions. There were two, yes, two pork chops on that plate. Everything was very fresh. Now we have to come back for lunch. My only negative: Most, not all, of the seating is not comfy, hard wooden booths, hard chairs. Do make a reservation, it's a popular place.”
“What an amazing restaurant, delightful in both food and service! Viroqua is a nice western Wisconsin town and driftless really brings out the amazing character. Parking is easily available on the street. They are most famous for their beef tenderloin, which I am told is fairly regular on the menu. That said, the menu changes daily and is a great experience. Driftless seems to edge into the supper club domain being a little bit away from the big cities, strong emphasis on meats and fish nice salads and a very interesting drinks menu. For those not into alcohol, they had some very interesting and a beers, and even an in a stout, which I really want to encourage. Their mock tails are quite delicious. Our table loved the pear cider parentheses (with alcohol). Our waiter was very kind and accommodating, and especially helpful with any food accommodations or small changes . One of our friends had a delicious salad and added some extra protein, the sliced and cooked beef looked mouthwatering with a savory looking sauce. I think a few forks found their way into that side dish just because it was so irresistible. The driftless Café is well worth the time to get there a jewel in western Wisconsin and part of what makes our restaurant heritage scattered across the state amazing.”
“Server Lauren was awesome. Three of us ordered the short ribs and were all disappointed. We all agreed they were dry. The Korean BBQ was Very spicy. We were told it was glazed over the ribs. Instead it drenched the entire bowl, saturating all of the fresh vegetables. The only thing it did not totally cover was the mound of rice. There was no where to excape the heat. I didn't come close to finishing my dinnerI only ate the 4 riblets, the 5th being all fat. Lauren took my plate as if not to ask how I truly enjoyed my meal. A bit disappointing. I should have went with the tenderloin.”
