Duke’s Grocery is an East London-inspired gastropub featuring DC’s favourite burger, hearty portions and international flavors centered around two custom copper top bars and an open kitchen. Guests enjoying patio and indoor seating options, the 12:00pm-7:00pm Happy Hour and late night fare have made Duke’s a District institution.
“Happy hour on the patio is so fun when the weather is nice! Great drinks, good food- best sweet potato fries I've ever had, and good burgers. Reasonably priced.”
“Went on a Saturday around 4 pm and snagged a seat at the bar — caught a good time in between the crowds. Had a Pimm’s Cup (their spin — tasty but underwhelming in size), the BLT (classic and perfectly balanced), crispy fries (excellent), and a house salad (which was a level up from normal). Service was top-notch — you can tell it’s a well-run operation by how the employees went about their business and interacted with each other. I definitely need to return for the famous burger. Shout out to Brenda for letting me sample a coffee cocktail she was testing out.”
“Went here for brunch and tried a few different things which were recommended. The burger was solid, not anything special though. Macka and cheese and salmon croquettes stood out and were delicious. The French toast came with only one slice of bread and no sides which was disappointing, at least have two pieces of bread if I'm paying $15.”
“I went here for dinner with a friend and it was really good. I walk by it all the time and I’m glad I finally tried it. You would never know that it is a local chain. I got the Golden Grain Salad with Chicken, which was apparently a mistake because their burgers are so good. The salad was really good though and it came with lots of chicken, which I appreciated. If you are in the neighborhood, definitely check this place out!”
“In my opinion, Duke’s would be the great place for you and friends to go for some drinks or maybe even a little late night grub. But it’s not a place I’d recommend as a date night restaurant. I enjoyed the fries and my boyfriend liked the cubano. However, our experience did not live up to the high reputation that this restaurant has— our experience was average. My wings were not very good which was a bit disappointing given 6 wings cost $11. Additionally, the seating left a little to be desired as a restaurant: my boyfriend and I sat at a counter for our meal even though we had asked for a table. Finally, the ambiance within the restaurant (at least on the 1st floor) was better suited towards a bar. All in all, I think a good pick for late-night food or drinks with friends, but not the best date night spots”
