“My daughter, daughter in law and granddaughter treated me to high tea here for my birthday, and what a delightful experience it was! The space is lovely, thoughtfully laid out for comfort and conversation, and both the tea and food provided were absolutely delicious. In fact, I loved my tea so much I got a bag to take home! This is a perfect spot for a quiet bit of self-indulgence to get away from the hustle and bustle, or a fun visit with small party of friends, or a private room for a bigger event - it’d be such a fun idea for a baby or bridal shower!”
“We did a high tea for my partner’s 30th birthday. The server was incredibly kind and helpful, allowing us to run back our favorite bits. The scone was unbelievable, and everything else had wonderfully unique and balanced flavors.”
“The tea tasting at DOJA Tea Room was lovely! The service was kind and enjoyable, and I was able to take my time sampling the small bites with my tea. The food was incredible. Favorites from the menu included curried carrot & ginger soup with preserved lemon gremolata, a roasted beet sandwich with green papaya slaw, a scone with clotted cream & lemon curd, and a yuzu ginger posset with blood orange & candied lemon. I paired the Earl Grey Blossom (oolong) tea with the tasting items. While the tea experience was a more indulgent activity, it's perfect for a special occasion, solo-date, or a "treat yourself moment." I hope to be back soon!”
“Had a lovely time! The atmosphere was calm and welcoming with subtle music and pleasant staff. The decorations were elegant without being overly fussy and the table was laid out beautifully. The food was so delicious and the portions were correct, I left feeling comfortably satiated without being too stuffed. Each course was well crafted and the menu flowed together smoothly. The tea was of course a highlight and paired well with most of the dishes served. Will definitely book again!”
“Afternoon tea at Doja Tea Room in Portland offers a study in contrasts. On the plate, there is real brilliance: an inventive summer menu that marries global flavors with the traditions of teatime. The sandwiches are standouts, particularly a chimichurri roast beef enlivened by black garlic aioli and a tom yum chicken salad layered with nectarine and roasted peanuts-flavors both bold and refreshingly unexpected. The scones, paired with clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam, arrive warm and tender, everything one hopes for in a classic centerpiece. And the pastries-whether a butter mochi with mango and coconut drizzle or a cornmeal cake topped with blackberry curd and honey crème fraîche-are delicate, thoughtful, and deeply satisfying. Yet the charm ends with the food. Service is perfunctory, at times even brusque, with the odd neglect of basics like refilling water. For a ritual built around leisurely indulgence, the clipped attitude feels especially discordant. The space, too, leaves something to be desired. While the menu speaks in the language of imagination, the room itself struggles to match it; the lack of atmosphere and minimal decoration give the experience a flatness that no amount of culinary finesse can quite overcome. Doja Tea Room, then, is a paradox: a kitchen that understands the pleasures of afternoon tea, paired with a front-of-house and setting that do not. Go for the food-it's worth it-but do not expect the full embrace of hospitality that makes teatime linger in the memory.”
