“All I can say is WOW. What a find and I had no idea what to expect. Thinking it was another Virginia winery only to experience one of the best meals of my life! We came in late March so this review is long overdue. Yes, this is Virginia, and the red wine is good. The food was every bit the Michelin pedigree of Chef Tim who was kind enough to visit our table. We also met Paige the manager and had the most amazing server, Edwin. Edwin has his own amazing story working his way up here. This is truly a bucket list experience in our mid Atlantic backyard. Who knew cabbage could be life changing! And it was created accidentally!”
“Early Mountain Winery is such a good spot. The fish and chips are a must, super crisp and flavorful, and the Emiko cabbage tempura is honestly standout…light, a little unexpected, and so good. They do small plates really well, so it’s easy to share and try a few things. It works for everything…family dinners, girls brunch, or just a laid back afternoon with wine. The staff is warm and welcoming, which makes the whole place feel easy and inviting. Definitely one you’ll come back to.”
“One of the best winery/tasting rooms in the Charlottesville area. It’s especially nice when they have the oversized fireplace going. The staff are very professional, and I would strongly recommend asking for Elly. She is terrific takes customer service to a whole new level. We enjoyed the cheese plate, which has local cheeses. The goat cheese is wonderful. Followed my an order of mussel's. The pan seared halibut was perfect, accompanied by a black garlic purée and bok choy. Overall, great experience.”
“Would love to give them 5 stars but honestly staff was a weird with us, will be back though for the Bison steak alone though, it was soooooo good. 100% worth a second chance which we hope to go back this year (March 2025, last year was when we visited for first time!) The wine was delicious and the property is absolutely stunning both inside and out. Not sure if they were just having an off day or they thought we weren't gonna spend any $ there due to us having dogs/ not being dressed up at all but if it wasn't for the food/drinks/ aesthetics and we think was one of the managers coming to say hi to us I would have probably left less stars. - socials @ SpicyAivy”
“Beautiful setting for good wine and food. The inside is very posh and a little stiff. Not a space where I feel comfortable, but my wife likes it. I prefer a space that’s a bit less formal and “Martha Stewartized”. My wife and I are members of this winery and have been here many times and we have always had very good service. However, today was a disappointment. It started out well enough with a members wine flight and a small bite, but after sitting for nearly thirty minutes, neglected by our server, we decided to leave. We went to the bar to pick up our bottles of wine when suddenly our server came running up to us. “I just wanted to give you a minute to try that wine,” she said. We had tried and finished our wine flight a half hour earlier. We were interested in ordering meals and having more wine, but after watching our server help other guests while ignoring us, we decided to take our business elsewhere. Poor customer service is the reason for my 3 Star rating. Will we be back? Yes, but that’s only as long as our membership lasts. Once that expires we will reassess our relationship with this winery. Early Mountain has a lot going for it, but I can’t abide poor customer service. Hopefully you will have a better experience than we did today. If you’re planning to drop a few hundred on food and drink (as the couple behind us did, and who received excellent service), then you should be okay. Cheers.”
