Bienvenido a EM Next door at Market North End, our kitchen staff has prepared an ‘Employee Meal’ twice daily for the past 10 years. These meals have been an opportunity for the front and back of house to come together, relax, and prepare for a busy night of service ahead. For an Employee Meal, anything goes… but throughout the years, the consistent highlight amongst our staff has been the Mexican cooking. When the kitchen cooks from their hearts and shares the items that they grew up on - the items their Mom’s taught them how to make - it’s a really special experience. Paired with a killer sound system (and Rodrigo on the Aux)… Employee Meals are a good time with great company. EM brings many of our favorite dishes, and many new ones to the forefront, along with a mezcal & tequila focused drink program, and that same killer sound system. We couldn’t be more excited to invite you into the kitchen for an Employee Meal. We do kindly ask for a 2 hours maximum once seated to accommodate for reservations that would be coming in afterwards.
“Recently had dinner here and it was great! Ordered the birria tacos, plantains, and guac with chips. Everything came out amazing! We were served by Hugo, who was very attentive and provided great recommendations. The drinks here were also very well made. Good atmosphere for talking and laughing with friends. “A funny name with very good eats. I’m curious as to its origin. Located across from Booth Park and other cool eateries the atmosphere is great. I gather this is one of Birmingham’s newest. I’d classify Employee as a higher end street food restaurant. It’s like a humble street food truck owner decided to get crafty and experiment. I have a bias to simpler ingredient mixes, yet I wasn’t turned off in anyway…I found it refreshingly vibrant. The atmosphere is trendy and reminds me of an upscale casual spot you’d find in Mexico City of the many tourist hotspots scattered throughout Mexico. I enjoyed different taco interpretations & a few other side dishes. I certainly recommend giving this place a go.”

“The food and service is exceptional. Everything was great or better. The Taco Arabes was very close to its shawarma cousin with lots of campechano filling the fresh tortilla. Ceviche, duck fat fries, grilled chicken, & even the rice and beans were all wonderful. Service was helpful and attentive.”
“Tucked away in Downtown Birmingham you'll find EM, you'll probably miss it if you're not looking for it but it's a little jem if you do. First time walking in my thought was smallish but hip and modern. Very laid back atmosphere. The food was very tasty. They had a few options I wasn't familiar with but I was coaxed into trying from friends and pleased I did. Alitte after 5pm on a weekday it went from my table and maybe 2 others to a packed house with 30 minutes. I guess that can attest to it's popularity. Again, smaller but a cool place to bring a date or stop by after work with friends.”
