Lebanese and Mexican cuisines contribute to some of the most flavorful and delectable dishes in the world. Both cultures have prolific histories and take immense pride in their foods. But did you know that these two cuisines have a fascinating fusion story? Lebanese immigrants brought their rich culinary heritage to Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They introduced new ingredients such as Chickpeas, Sumac, and Tahini, which have now become staples in Mexican cuisine. Lebanese-Mexican fusion dishes like Falafel Tacos, Hummus Burritos, and the Shawarma Al Pastor have become a popular trend in Mexican food culture. Lebanese immigrants have made a lasting impact on the Mexican culinary scene, and their contributions continue to be celebrated to this day. Between the spices, herbs, chili peppers, and much more - these two fares have combined to create a bold and rich flavor palate that are truly one-of-a-kind. So the next time you try a Falafel Taco or a Shawarma Quesadilla, remember the deep history and cultural fusion behind it.

“NEW Mexican and Lebanese restaurant! These cultures carry unique flavor profiles that surprisingly work well together! The Hummus con Esquitos (Mexican street corn) appetizer was impeccable—creamy, nutty, sweet—a table favorite! I did not enjoy the cotija cheese on the falafel and would remove it next time. I would prefer a light tahini or even cilantro drizzle. The Shawarma Tostadas were delicious and come in a perfectly-sized pair for a light meal. Great flavoring on the Calamari! Friends and I recommend just about any of the tapas here! We had the Vamos Habibi margarita, and two seasonal drinks–a caramel rum latte and espresso lemonade–all drinks super unique and very delicious.
Vera offers a seasonal menu that is worth checking out!
The restaurant itself has a breathtakingly well-designed interior. You walk in and are immediately immersed into the moody, Mexican vibes and impressed by the decor–they did not play!! Vera is a perfect date night, girls night out (GNO), or birthday party spot! Delicious with unique cocktails!”

“Came to Vera for dinner and ended up staying for the late night when the space transitions into more of a club atmosphere. Both experiences exceeded expectations. The food, ambiance, and service were all great, and our bottle server Gisselle was amazing. She made us feel welcomed from the start and stayed on top of everything all night. The music was great and the crowd is full of people there to dance and celebrate. If you’re visiting DC or looking for a fun place to celebrate with friends or family, this is definitely the spot.”

“Went for Saturday Bruno and was excited for fusion food. I did not expect a huge party fun filled atmosphere with great DJ and dancing. We had a blast. The hummus and Houlami sandwich was great for vegetarians. The labneh little tart for my liking. The drinks were very well balanced and very nice variety. The decor was like many restaurants in Mexico City. Highly recommend”

“Such a wonderful brunch spot with so many unique and delicious dishes! The best part? The show! The dancers brought incredible energy, lighting up the room and even getting the crowd up and dancing—it turned brunch into a full-on party. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, which made the whole experience feel even more special. Just know there’s a $25 fee for the show and a 22% automatic gratuity, but honestly, the lively atmosphere and entertainment made it totally worth it!”
