“After seeing so many posts about this place lately, I had to check it out for myself. Are restaurants competing so hard these days that even omakase is getting in on it? 🤣 This Signature Omakase includes 16 courses for $155. What surprised me most was that after the very first piece, the chef asked whether the rice seasoning and overall balance suited my taste. Based on that feedback, he adjusted the rest of the meal. It honestly felt like a customized experience. I've always believed great ingredients matter more than anything else, and for the quality here, the value felt incredible. Throughout the meal, the chefs were happy to chat and answer questions, but the moment it was time to prepare the next course, they switched right back into full focus mode. Each piece came with an explanation of where the fish came from, which part was being served, and how it was prepared. There was actually a first-time omakase guest sitting next to us who had just walked in after class nearby. She asked so many questions that the rest of us ended up getting a free sushi education too 😂 Since I'm obsessed with uni, I asked about it. The chefs told us they taste every batch before serving it. Apparently they had one a few days earlier that turned out a little bitter, so they refused to serve it to guests. My immediate response was: "So... does that mean you guys get to eat it all yourselves?!" 🤣 They just smiled and said nothing. The toro we had that day had arrived the very same morning, so we got to enjoy it at its freshest. I felt ridiculously lucky. And then the chef casually showed off a box of premium Daigokujyo uni that had just come in... which somehow turned into everyone getting some 🤣 That's one of the things I love most about omakase. Once you've made the reservation, you never really know what ingredients or stories you'll encounter that day. The chef also mentioned that over Memorial Day weekend, someone drove all the way down from San Francisco just to eat here. My reaction was basically: Wait... seriously?! 😳”
“This omakase spot is truly a hidden gem in Alhambra. We ordered the $155 course and were served 16 pieces, each one beautifully prepared with incredibly fresh and high-quality ingredients. Every bite felt thoughtful and well balanced, from the texture of the fish to the seasoning and rice temperature. Chef Roe was not only skilled but also very warm and entertaining throughout the entire experience. He explained the background of different fish, sushi techniques, and Japanese dining culture in a way that made the meal feel interactive and memorable instead of just another dinner. You can really feel the passion and craftsmanship behind every course. The atmosphere was intimate, elegant, and welcoming, making the whole experience even more special. By the end of the meal, we were completely satisfied both food-wise and experience-wise. Definitely one of the best omakase experiences we’ve had in the SGV area, and we’re already looking forward to coming back again soon. Highly recommend Kogane 黄金 Omakase if you appreciate authentic and carefully crafted sushi.”
“Recommended! So, if you are trying to get a omakasai experience around the area, you would have many choices. This place is easy to book, I booked the last minute and was offered a table. Easy to park, they have a big parking lot in the back. Fishes are quite good, I really enjoyed the dry-aged tuna, but your menu might be different. The 3 sake is great, I would recommend it if you have the budget. I enjoyed it with my girlfriend and we didn’t even finish all of them. They are quite serious about your allergy which is great. I told them that my girlfriend could not eat the ice cream right before dessert and they changed it for her.”
“Not my first time here, and it definitely won’t be my last. The chefs are incredibly skilled and also super friendly and fun, which makes the whole experience even better. I really enjoyed it, and they’ve recently added some new items to the menu too. Looking forward to coming back again!”
“The sushi is delicious but Im giving 3 stars for the value. For $150 (after tax/tip) you can get a better deal elsewhere. Their sushi pieces are tiny and you only get like 13. *changed to 4 stars cuz started to crave it”
