“Finally had the chance to try Sushi Sonagi, and I have to say this place is seriously underrated. It deserves a lot more attention and recognition than it gets. Chef Daniel Son is incredibly friendly and has a way of making everyone feel at home. The restaurant only seats 10 guests at a time at the sushi counter, creating a very intimate and personal experience. Throughout the meal, Chef Daniel takes the time to talk with every guest, listen to their stories, and share his own passion for food. He explains each dish, the ingredients used, and the inspiration behind it, making the experience both enjoyable and educational. This is not your typical Japanese omakase. Sushi Sonagi feels more like a Korean-Japanese-American fusion omakase, with unique dishes that you won't find anywhere else. Every course was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Chef Daniel also mentioned that many of the ingredients are sourced locally, while the fish is carefully selected and imported directly from Japan. One thing I really appreciated was that this wasn't one of those omakase experiences where you leave still feeling hungry. After more than 20 courses, I was completely satisfied. At $250 per person, it's definitely a special occasion meal, but it's absolutely worth it for the quality of the ingredients, the creativity of the dishes, and the overall experience. Quick tips: Reservations are required. There are no walk-ins. Reservations open about one month in advance and can be made online. A $200 deposit is required when booking. The deposit is refunded back to your credit card after your visit.”
“Not that I've eaten at a ton of high-end omakase sushi restaurants, but Sushi Sonagi is one of the best omakase restaurants I've had in the world. Chef Son seems to do a seasonal menu, but sources and prepares fish uniquely that not only tastes absolutely amazing, but also in a way that I didn't taste at several other, Michelin-starred omakase sushi restaurants. For example, I personally do not enjoy the taste of salmon, but the one Chef Son prepared (he described it as a 1 in 1000 salmon) did not have a strong salmon flavor at all, and it ended up being one of my favorite courses out of the whole meal. It should speak volumes of his skill that he could turn one of my least favorite ingredients into a dish I hope I'll be able to eat more of. While I'm not a big sake person, the waitress (I assume his wife but I don't know for sure) was happy to recommend a sake based on my taste preference and she really nailed it, it was one of the best tasting sakes I've ever had as well. Chef Son was also very conversational, and as a local South Bay resident he was able to chat with all the customers about a ton of stuff. Mostly food and cooking of course, but also other things as well. It was a much more relaxed and casual setting than other places at the $200+ price point, which I appreciated. These types of restaurants are usually one and done for me no matter how good they are, but Sushi Sonagi is the first one I'm seriously considering returning to, and sooner rather than later.”
“Sushi Sonagi is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s an intimate eight-seat omakase format so the experience feels persona, and so special from start to finish. A true culinary experience. Every course was executed with absolute precision. You can tell the quality of the fish, the balance of flavors, and the attention to detail are on another level. Each bite somehow managed to be delicate, bold, and deeply satisfying all at once. I genuinely don’t know how else to describe it other than incredible, I am still savoring it. The chef, Daniel, is so talented and his care and intention behind every dish shows. You can feel the passion and mastery in the chef’s work, and the pacing of the omakase allows you to fully appreciate each piece as it comes. There are no distractions, no rush, just exceptional sushi and an unforgettable dining experience. Thank you to the chef, his sister and parents for an amazing night! -Vera and Carlos”
“Best omakase experience I’ve ever had! Chef Daniel and his team were so so kind and amazing and the food was equally as amazing. Pictured are just a handful of dishes but every dinner menu may look different so these are mostly for my own documentation and memories! Very intimate 7 person counter seating. Everything in the experience is super thoughtful - they noticed I was left handed and adjusted presentation accordingly 🥹. Would highly recommend to anyone😄”
“Wow! Soooo good! I have been fortunate to explore many omakase and Chef Daniel’s intimate 8 seater is my new favorite. To my surprise this gem is in my hometown, the chef is local too and he uses some local ingredients as well as the freshest Japanese fish. So many dishes and types of fish I had not tried before, many firsts! The two hour session was amazing, the service (his lovely wife) attentive they are a cute team, and the vibe was really chill, friendly and conversation filled! I’ll be back, if I can secure another reservation (on tock) to take my husband so he can experience my new favorite. Thanks Sonagi!! I’ll be thinking about the tasty bites!”
