A pub and bouchon by Dave Strauss and Henry Harris. Three Compasses, a pub for the last 300 years will offer a good range of beers, wines and spirits with a simple menu reflective of Bouchon Racine upstairs. You will find Bouchon Racine upstairs overlooking Cowcross Street, inspired by the bouchons of Lyon and the bistros of Paris, we set out to provide unashamed French cooking with a French led wine list and some fine apéritifs and digéstifs in an informal setting.
“Absolutely the best food I've had for years! We have been struggling to find a restaurant with good quality food and good value for money until we went here. If you're lucky enough to get a table, the reservations are usually booked far in advance, then this is the place you will be telling everyone about. The service, from start to finish, faultless. We met with friends in the pub downstairs and then went upstairs to our table when it was our reservation time. We were greeted with first class service and a huge welcome. The menu was brought over to us in a huge chalk board. The chef even came out. We felt so looked after and happy. The champagne was at perfect temperature, the wines paired perfectly and the food .. unbeatable.”
“Classic French cuisine, focused on high quality ingredients and extraction of every iota of flavour from each plate. Portable chalkboards, skilfully presented by the team, communicate numerous, scrumptious options.”
“A standout French bistro. Excellent food and a welcoming environment. The staff are attentive and the setting is cozy. This has quickly become a favorite; highly recommended, though booking ahead is a necessity.”
“Believe the hype and if you're lucky enough to bag a table then you are set for a fabulous experience French Brasserie extravagance. We had Egg Mayonnaise which I was excited about, sadly not with tridfle this time and I will say was really under seasoned for my taste. Bayonne Ham and Celeriac Remoulade and I can't remember the third starter... For mains we had the sharing Pork and Duxk which were outstanding. The Spinach with Foie Gras was an absolute highlight and must. We shared a pudding, Creme Caramel my dining partners loved it, I was too stuffed You'll enjoy it very much if you manage to get a table x”
“A cosy, intimate spot upstairs from a pub, and reservations are always tricky, so book ahead. The menu’s on a big chalkboard, which is cute, and the food is lovely - though nothing spectacular. We had the rabbit (nice, but not memorable), bavette (a bit chewy, and the creamy sauce didn’t quite work), chicken liver pâté (good if you like pâté), and escargot. The crème caramel though - absolutely try it, it’s the highlight! Service was friendly and attentive. It’s a relaxed, pub-style spot with slightly fancier prices. Overall, a positive experience, mainly for the dessert and the cosy vibe.”
