Buona Forchetta South Park is an award-winning Italian Cuisine restaurant in San Diego, founded in 2011 and inspired by traditional Neapolitan technique. The flagship location is anchored by Sofia, a custom Stefano Ferrara wood-fired oven imported from Naples, which bakes the restaurant's signature Neapolitan pizza using authentic Italian methods. The dining room channels the warmth of a southern Italian home, while the lush, lantern-strung backyard patio — a South Park favorite — makes it a go-to spot for date nights and long dinners with friends. Located minutes from Balboa Park and the shops and cafes of South Park's 30th Street corridor, Buona Forchetta has earned recognition from Gambero Rosso, a spot among San Diego Magazine's Best Pizza, and a recurring OpenTable Diners' Choice award as one of the best pizza restaurants in San Diego.
“Always such a great spot! Great ambiance, amazing food, the staff is super sweet. So nice to sit outside and enjoy a slow lunch. Great spot for a family. We brought our 8 month old baby and everyone was so great with us. Nice options for gluten free for our nana. She was able to modify her pasta how she wanted and have the noodles cooked to her liking! The beet salad, Juna pizza and carbonara were super fresh and had great flavor. The salad was big enough to share! House white wine was very tasty.”
“We had some pasta, a pizza, and a salad, all of it was delish! We had some rosemary focaccia bread as well, it’s a very busy place but the staff is great at getting people sat down, I recommend a reservation though which is thankfully what we had. The outdoor seating was great as well, definitely would go back”
“Great service, and amazing vibe. Disappointing food quality. Pizza was inconsistenty baked, with some parts undercooked. Ingredients were not the best either - canned porcini mushrooms (can tell by the vinegar taste), overspiced and overpowering salami. All the ingredients would fall off when trying to take a slice. Carbonara lacked its signature richness and creaminess that comes from egg yolks. Spritz was a touch too sweet. I wish the food quality would be on par with their atmosphere.”
“We had a good dinner at buona forchetta. It wasn’t amazing but still enjoyable! It is located in a neighborhood with indoor and outdoor seating. The food is authentic Italian. The lasagna was amazing! The pizza was good but I was disappointed in the presentation/distribution of the toppings. The toppings were very slim and only on part of the pizza. I do recognize and validate that it was a busy Valentine’s Day/Presidents Day weekend and they were short staffed. I did appreciate they were accommodating with the requests we had.”
“We arrived 15 minutes early and the hostesses were not the friendliest and said we’d have to wait till our table was ready which I totally get but their delivery and tone was a bit snippy. We proceeded to ask to use the restrooms and they said yes… you’d think they’d give you directions but nope 👎🏼. A smile and support goes a long way. The location was cute and stylish. The waiter was dry and seemed snooty and matched the same energy as the hostesses without really showing interest in our visit. The food was delicious. The pizza base crust was so soft and almost as thin as a crepe which melted into your mouth so divinely. The pomegranate sparkling drink was yum just a bit too much sugar 30+ grams so I added water to soften the sweetness. We shared a spaghetti pasta with papas and some pizza. My spouse said the pasta was lacking flavor but I enjoyed it. I do plan to revisit to give it another chance in hopes that we get a more friendly experience.”
