“A new one for us. Saturday lunch at Casa Fofò in Hackney. We hugely enjoyed the seven course tasting menu. Innovative and creative featuring seasonal ingredients every dish was fantastic. You often get a dud when the cooking boundaries are pushed but not here. So, so tasty and interesting, the dining room, although quiet, had a great vibe with a cool playlist. With perfect friendly and knowledgeable service this is yet another restaurant that ticks all the boxes. It’s no surprise at all this place has a Michelin star. So good we’ve booked a return visit for a few weeks time. Awesome.”
“Such an amazing place! The food is absolutely delicious, the flavours and textures were so interesting! They offer an amazing value for money too imo. Will be coming back as the menu changes fairly frequently”
“I had the tasting course (they only have tasting menu anyway) at Casa Fofo and was genuinely impressed by the value for money. The pricing is very reasonable considering the quality and creativity of the food. They offer a great selection of natural wines, which suited my taste perfectly and paired beautifully with the dishes. Each course was full of thoughtful ideas and executed with great balance, making the whole experience very satisfying. The highlight for me was the dessert! Two different ice creams were served, and both were absolutely delicious. Even though I’m not usually a dessert person, I truly enjoyed them. A wonderful restaurant with creativity, care, and warmth throughout. I would definitely love to return.”
“I had an excellent evening at this restaurant. The place is truly cosy, warm in a quiet, understated way that makes you want to linger. The service was friendly and relaxed, just right. The set menu was flawless. The mussels in a delicately spiced curry sauce were outstanding, full of subtle, fragrant flavour. The Cornish pork was tender and rich. And to top it all off, an excellent orange wine, perfectly chosen. A place I’ll gladly return to !”
“We left feeling that the restaurant had some good ideas, but the overall experience didn’t quite come together - good technique but not at the service of good flavours. Some dishes could have used a bit more context, for example a piece of soggy bread from the day before with potato puree - not sure what was that supposed to be. A few dishes mixed flavours that we didn’t enjoy, as if creativity was the goal rather than coherence. The dessert course in particular tried to do too much: a bowl of scattered flavours paired with a sweet Tokaji, followed by a second “dessert” with chocolate and mushrooms. It was surprising, but not in a way that added to the meal and made the closure neither refreshing or satisfyingly sweet. The mackerel dish was the exception. The salty fish with crisp apple actually worked. Simple, sensible, and not trying too hard. The wine pairing overall was fine. Most of the wines were natural, which fit the restaurant’s style, but didn’t always elevate the food. Service was kind and uncomplicated, and the room itself was pleasant, though it would have been nice to have somewhere to put a long coat other than the back of a chair. The experience was overall ok, but below expectations. There were glimmers of something interesting, but the flavours, pairings, and overall storytelling never fully came together.”
