“In Syrian culture, we can’t make any journey without first planning the food. If you decide to go to the cinema, you plan what you’ll eat. If you plan to visit your mother, you know that you’re going to eat. There’s no going out without eating something.” -Imad Alarnab Imad Alarnab was a successful restaurateur in Damascus with three restaurants, plus several juice bars and cafes. In the war, Imad's restaurants were destroyed and he was forced to flee the country in search of safety for his family. Making his way from Lebanon through Europe, Imad shared his skills cooking for other refugees, up to 400 at a time, and found even in the most challenging times, his passion for food and bringing people together to celebrate life was strong.
“Imad’s was absolutely fantastic. We went for dinner on the last night of our honeymoon and it exceeded our expectations. The location was gorgeous, the staff were kind and attentive, and the food was delicious. We had hummus and garlic pita as well as entrees and drinks. My husband had an old fashioned and I had the drink of the day, a daiquiri. When they found out it was our honeymoon they not only gave us baklava on the house, but a signed card congratulating us and wishing us well. It made me tear up. I highly recommend this restaurant. You won’t regret it and we’d love to visit in the future!”
“The food was delicious, but the service was what really stood out. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed so warmly and made to feel comfortable. We visited on a Saturday and the restaurant was completely packed, yet the team still managed to provide excellent service throughout. We also loved the cocktails! I would definitely recommend booking in advance, as it was very busy and fully booked when we were there. A wonderful dining experience overall. 😊”
“Great restaurant but a bit hard to find! The prices were incredibly fair! Make sure to try all of the pita styles! The chicken plate was huge and packed with tons of flavor, the potato’s that were served with it were crispy and spicy! The beef was served over a nice bed of sautéed veggies! Many birthday celebrations here so make sure to reserve your table! Great spot and can’t wait to come back!”
“Nice food, expensive prices, good service. Although the ingredients, authentic dishes and taste were obviously Syrian, the food lacked stand out flavours and signature dishes that were memorable. Fine if prices were to match but you pay a premium and are left not quite able to recall what was good due to indifference. Chicken well cooked and paired with a tart couli, pulled lamb on soft rice that was comforting, prawns that were juicy… but the flavours just pulled their punches so nothing quite hit home. Even the mocktails which did tingle the tastebuds was forgotten after a sip or two. Not to take away from the prompt service and bustling ambience, I just wanted more to write home about.”
“I recently visited Imad’s Syrian Kitchen and had a generally good experience, though it didn’t fully meet my expectations. The quality of the food was definitely there—both the chicken and lamb dishes were absolutely amazing, full of flavor and clearly well-prepared. The service was also very good, with attentive and friendly staff. However, I did feel that the pricing was quite high for what was offered. For example, charging £2 for a single piece of bread felt excessive. Additionally, the fattoush was disappointing and lacked the freshness and balance I was expecting. The atmosphere was another downside. While I understand and even enjoy lively dining environments as a Lebanese person used to vibrant, high-volume settings, this felt overwhelmingly loud to the point where it affected the overall enjoyment of the meal. Overall, it’s a good restaurant with strong food quality and service, but considering the price point and atmosphere, it didn’t quite live up to what I had hoped for.”
