Kitchen W8 is that rare thing – a genuinely relaxed and friendly Michelin-starred neighbourhood restaurant. Our multi-award-winning chef, Mark Kempson, is renowned for the skill and precision he employs to produce intensely flavourful dishes of deceptive simplicity. His ingredient-led approach means that our menus always use the best of seasonal produce from farmers and fishermen we admire. Mark is also an advocate for cooking with wild food and the connection to nature that this brings. Ingredients from venison, to game birds, to chanterelles to hedgerow fruits often grace our menus depending on the season. Wild food requires no agricultural intervention and delivers fantastic purity of flavour, inspiring Mark to create exceptional and original dishes. It is this passion for food and attention for detail, together with our polished and friendly front of house service, that had seen Kitchen W8 awarded one Michelin star for 15 successive years. “Wish I lived in the UK so I could go here often! My partner and I came last night and had an amazing time. We ate so much and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Got the Hugo Spritz cocktails (so good!) and set menu for dinner. Got the trout (think it was trout, can’t remember!) for starter, the picked cucumber and warm muffin was unbelievable. Main was beef for my partner and fish for me, then raspberry parfait for dessert. Our service was amazing up until mains were served and then we seemed a little forgotten about which was disappointing but the experience overall was so lovely that we really didn’t give a dang. Gave us time to be together and have fun! Highly recommend and if we’re ever back in London, shall be coming here again :)”
“A lovely intimate fine dining restaurant with a lively atmosphere resembling a dinner party. Staff were lovely and the food was wonderful. A really good value restaurant that when you leave you have a smile on your face and you say ‘what a lovely friendly place’”
“Kitchen W8 is an absolute gem in Kensington. From the moment we arrived, everything felt effortless and welcoming. The food was wonderful each dish beautifully presented, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the care that goes into every plate. It’s refined without being fussy, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. The service was equally impressive friendly, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable, striking the perfect balance between professional and relaxed. All in all, a fantastic dining experience. If you’re looking for exceptional food and a lovely atmosphere, Restaurant W8 is definitely worth a visit.”
“An interesting menu but unfortunately an underwhelming experience. Service was a bit lackluster abs disinterested. The tasting menu was good value for the money. The mackerel was well done and had a lovely char on it. The salad was interesting and I loved the artichoke. The pea mush with mint was also very nice. Everything else was good, but wasn't a stand out. My girlfriends risotto was quite lovely though a tad over salted. This was the first time I had sparkling tea she it was very refreshing and interesting. I would recommend going and ordering a la carte.”
“The place was nice, the food was good but there was a few (big) negative points that should be addressed since it's a expensive and michelin star restaurant. First, it took ages for us to get the main dishes, we had to remember the waiter about our food (customers arriving and order way after us got the food first). When the main dishes arrived, it was clear they forgot to put the sauce in one of the dishes (fish one - you can see in the pictures one of the fish dish without the sauce), again, we had to call the waiter to remind him about the sauce missing on a plate. Until here we thought was already odd for such a top restaurant to have the customer remind the waiter for food. Furthermore, when one of us was eating the fish, there was a hair in the plate. When addressed to the waiter, he didn't know how to react and called the manager - which arrived to the table and asked if everything was okay (clearly was not). When we explained the issue, the person who had the hair in the food asked for another carpaccio which the manager responded "I have to ask the chef if it's possible". Again, suggesting if it's possible it's not the way to handle the situation. They got us the carpaccio and they stated they would remove the original dish from the bill - for our surprise, they only removed £5 from the bill and they still kept the service charge. Such a disappointment as we choose this restaurant for a special birthday - for a person who was visiting London. It's a shame how it was handled since you have a Michelin star - better service should be provided, specially a training to the staff when they kept forgetting about customers food.”
