La Trompette is owned by Nigel Platts-Martin and Bruce Poole, the partnership behind Chez Bruce in Wandsworth. It therefore serves some of the best food in London but without the formality or prices associated with the capital's top end establishments .The comfortable and stylish dining room is a vibrant, busy and friendly place to be with service that is highly professional yet relaxed and informal. From the outset La Trompette has been showered with accolades, a reflection of the love, care and energy that is invested in the restaurant by the dedicated team behind it. La Trompette was awarded a Michelin star in 2008 and has been fortunate enough to retain it every year since.
“The scintillating quality of the food makes La Trompette far more than a neighbourhood restaurant in a swish area; it is definitely one of the serious 'destinations' in London. The food is inventive, stylishly-presented, and seriously delicious. Absolutely go for extremely good food; that's enough of a reason. However, you should also enjoy the stylish environment that is still relaxed and not the slightest bit pretentious. Tables are usually not too close together (especially at lunch time, some nights can be busy), and service is discreet and faultless. Their bread is always lovely, but do not fill up on it as you can quite easily find yourself ordering a second starter as your first will be so good! There are always some real gems at damn good prices on the wine list, if you know what is what and look beyond safe options. It is also nice that they can be talked into letting you bring a bottle or two of your own special wine. Thankfully, you will not pay an obscene amount for corkage. They are rare in this regard as far as destination restaurants in Town go. Definitely ring or email in advance to arrange this. They have quality digestif, including my favourite VEP Chartreuse. All ingredients in the food are of impeccable provenance and the highest quality. Such things, unfortunately, cost. The rent must also be sky high, they are well-staffed - the staff seem to stay for a long time, so are not being exploited - and have an always first-rate crew in the kitchen. So, you will have to pay. If you are worried about the stress-resistance of your bank card, check you can afford their prices via their website before booking. If you go for the lunch menu you will be getting proper value-for-money considering the quality of the food. Yes, it is expensive, but it is an absolute joy! Every trip I have made here, even though i live outside London i have made a lot, i have loved and has been a memorable experience. It is one of my happy places. I am going again in ten days and the excitement and anticipation are palpable. I will have a fantastic time, guaranteed.”
“I've eaten many meals at Michelin-starred restaurants over the years. I do not recall a better 3-course meal than this one. The pork starter, the duck main course and the strawberry panna cotta were all superb and I particularly liked the drink pairing for the panna cotta (an ice wine), which could have been made for the panna cotta. My wife had the lamb for her main course, which she also thought was superb. The souffle was well made, but perhaps lacked the spark of the other four dishes. Service was excellent - friendly and efficient. We were there on a Thursday lunchtime for our anniversary, so the value for money was higher than it would be on an evening, but the restaurant was busy.”
“Probably my favourite restaurant. Can’t fault, always delicious, and a lovely atmosphere - not pretentious.”
“Had a lovely lunch at La Trompette in the heart of Chiswick — even on a Thursday it was fairly busy. The service was polished yet relaxed, the crusty soft bread (always a highlight) was excellent, and the lunch menu was absolutely delicious. Such an impressive neighbourhood gem, and well worth a visit.”
“Superb food, friendly and expert service, lovely atmosphere. We had a gorgeous lunch for my Dad's birthday - it was very special indeed. Thanks to everyone at La Trompette.”
