STARTING MAY 1ST WE WILL BE WALK-IN ONLY MEANING NO RESERVATIONS Since opening their doors in 1972, CPOG has been serving its unique style of pizza, the Pizza Pot Pie- an original- baked in a bowl filled with cheese; homemade sauce from scratch (each batch takes 10 hours of prep and cooking time); large fresh mushrooms and topped with a triple raised Sicilian bread-type dough; then inverted ceremoniously at your table. Six mouth-watering gargantuan Oven Grinders, several colossal salads with distinctive, original homemade dressings and the Mediterranean Bread round out its menu. In the heart of Lincoln Park in Chicago, this cozy restaurant is housed in a historical building. Set across the street from the site of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, this three story brownstone is claimed to have been used as a look out for Al Capone’s gang during the legendary hit back in 1929.
“This place was recommended to us by a local, and we’re incredibly grateful for that recommendation. I’ve had plenty of deep dish pizza before, but nothing quite like this. It was absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend giving it a try. Come hungry, and don’t skip the salads, they’re freshly prepared by dedicated salad chefs and are just as impressive as the pizza. There’s no outdoor seating, but the indoor atmosphere feels authentic and adds to the overall experience. The staff was attentive, our order was handled perfectly, and we had a fantastic meal from start to finish.”
“A classic Chicago pizza spot with a cozy & old-school cabin feel. We visited on a weekday and still had about a 30-minute wait. The Mediterranean bread was a flavorful start, and the house salad was surprisingly good with its house dressing. The famous pizza pot pie was the clear highlight, with a rich and cheesy texture and an upside down bake. A very hearty & quintessential experience for the Chicago pizza scene.”
“The wait was long, but trust me, the food was so worth it. Best Greek salad I've ever had, and the Mediterranean bread was love at first bite. I went in looking to try the pizza pot pie, but I'm leaving obsessed with the bread and salad. Shoutout to Juan for keeping it classy despite a rude guest, and Amber, our server, was absolute perfection - warm, friendly, and attentive. If you're looking for a great dining experience, look no further.”
“If we could leave 20* review we would! Everything is absolutely amazing! First experience and so impressed! Tyler was an awesome waiter and on key! Martin was so very friendly, accommodating & helpful as our bus boy. We had a drink at the bar while waiting for our table and was Ever was accommodating as well. The place was packed with about 45 minute wait. SOOO WORTH IT! They have been here 50+ yrs which speaks volumns!!! Pizza pot pie was delish :P”
“Realy good experience on our first visit. Spending a day in the city is always an adventure for us. Seeing how close we were to this iconic establishment we had to give it a try. I was not disappointed in any bit. We split a Meatball grinder and the smaller sized Pizza Pot Pie, and half the grinder ended up coming home with us (it warmed up beautifully, BTW). The atmosphere is pleasant. Lots of dark wood everywhere. The seats are good for the dining experience. Service was attentive, when food came they gave us a very nice break while dining, refilling water frequently, and were right there with the check and a to go container when we were ready and not a minute before. It was a great experience and there is a lot on the menu to explore in future visits!”
