“Standout meal. The sushi was good but unremarkable; where this restaurant stands out is the robata. The chicken wings are insane, with an amazing flavor due to their vinaigrette marinade, so tender and juicy. My husband and I were blown away by how delicious this was. The corn with the shiso butter was maybe the best corn I’ve ever had. Huge fan of the braised beef yaki noodles as well; a deep savory umami flavor and comes piping hot in a stone bowl. You may be tempted to order the raw items here but make sure to order a robata item or two as they are exceptional. 10/10”
“Makoto consistently delivers. Excellent sushi, great atmosphere, and very polished service without feeling stuffy or pretentious. One of the few restaurants in South Florida that actually lives up to the hype. I’ve been multiple times and it’s always outstanding.”
“Makoto is one of the standout sushi spots in Bal Harbour and has been for years. The level of consistency here is impressive. Despite being around for a long time, the restaurant has maintained a high standard across the board. The service is polished and attentive without feeling overbearing, and the food delivers every time. The sushi is extremely fresh, clean, and well-executed, and the menu also includes some creative dishes that actually work, not just for show. It’s the kind of place that manages to feel both established and still relevant, which isn’t easy to do. Overall, Makoto is a staple in the neighborhood and a reliable choice if you’re looking for high-quality sushi in Miami.”
“The best sushi experience I've had in a really long time. Our servers Anna and David were excellent and solidified an already outstanding meal. We had the pleasure of sitting outside too which was a great vibe. Highly recommend the tuna crispy rice and rainbow roll. The dessert really topped it off and was just as good as the sushi!”
“⭐⭐⭐⭐ Makoto at Bal Harbour is a genuinely special dining experience. The ambiance at the open kitchen counter is stunning — watching the chefs work while surrounded by the warm, elegant décor makes for a memorable evening. The food largely delivers. The Hamachi Crispy Rice and Spicy Yellowtail roll were standouts — fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. The Wagyu Robata was a highlight: rich, perfectly charred, and served with a great dipping sauce. The Yaki Noodle, mixed tableside, was fun and flavorful. Service was attentive and polished throughout. The one letdown was the Makoto Chicken Soup, which felt uninspired compared to the rest of the menu — a dish that didn't match the creativity of everything else. At $100+ per person, the experience mostly justifies the price. A few tweaks to the menu and it could be a five-star go-to.”
