Mooncusser serves a $120 multicourse menu from head chef Carl Dooley. Since opening in 2017, the restaurant has been awarded top honors by the New York Times, Boston Magazine and other publications.
“Mooncusser is a fine dining restaurant that focuses on seasonal tasting menus with a strong emphasis on seafood and creative New England-inspired dishes. The space has a more relaxed approach to fine dining, with a cozy atmosphere that feels upscale without being overly formal. From the dining room setup to the pacing of the meal, the experience feels designed around enjoying the entire evening rather than just having a quick dinner. The tasting menu is the main highlight and gives a chance to try a variety of dishes with different flavors and textures throughout the meal. The seafood-focused courses stood out, especially the crudo and scallop dishes, which showcased the quality of the ingredients without feeling overly complicated. The menu changes seasonally, so the experience feels fresh and different depending on when you visit. Each course felt thoughtfully prepared, with attention given to both presentation and balance. The service added a lot to the experience. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes, helping explain each course without making the meal feel too formal or interrupted. The pacing of the tasting menu was also well handled, allowing enough time to enjoy each dish while keeping the evening moving naturally. Because it is a tasting menu experience, the price is definitely higher than a typical dinner, but the amount of food and variety make it feel more like a full dining experience rather than just a meal. It works especially well for special occasions, date nights, or anyone looking to spend more time exploring a restaurant’s style and creativity. Overall, Mooncusser delivers a memorable fine dining experience with a comfortable atmosphere, strong seasonal cooking, and thoughtful service. The combination of creative dishes and relaxed hospitality makes it one of the places I would consider for a special night out in Boston.”
“A really well done fine dining experience in Boston. The tasting menu is great value for the quality of food and the wine pairing was really thoughtful as well. Wonderful friendly staff and some great recommendations for the second leg of our trip in Maine. Highly recommend!”
“This was such a great experience! From the arrival until the end, service, food, atmosphere were a ten. I would say this restaurant does “relaxed” fine dining. The food is amazing in presentation, flavor, texture, the service is friendly and polished, yet the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, not stiff. Best possible combo. Our server, Clayton, was very funny, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. He did a great job presenting the wines and making suggestions (following his advice, we tried both tasting menus and shared, a great idea) The wine pairing was delicious and well worth it. We were even offered a little extra champagne as we lingered in conversation until closing time. We will return for sure!”
“- This is a tasting menu (4 courses and dessert), priced at around 125 per person. As someone who is not necessarily a fan of fine dining, I was very impressed and enjoyed the restaurant. It was a nice atmosphere on the 3rd floor, with excellent service that flowed very well. The entire experience took about 2 hours. The dishes were tasty and well seasoned. They also gave us a a few surprise additional dishes which were nice treats. Overall a very pleasant experience and worth the price as a special occasion - They change the menu every 6 weeks apparently”
“Called for a last minute reservation and they generously fit us in. I'll lead with the only 'dud' in the swordfish confit with olive and potato chips. I kind of thought they were riffing on brandade but it didn't coalesce. Otherwise everything was spectacular. The tostada to start, perfectly crisp and fresh. The crab in the corn soup, amazing. The banana pepper with the agnolotti, shockingly delicious. Perfectly prepared chanterelles with the beef. The pear mostarda even had a wonderful balance. Excellent service, attentive, kind, very detail oriented. This is my own pet peeve but I don't think full restaurants ever need to have music playing. I had an absolutely wonderful time and will gladly return the next time I'm in Boston.”
