Mujō is a one MICHELIN star, intimate, omakase-only tasting menu experience serving modern edomae sushi led by Executive Chef J. Trent Harris. Our menu changes daily and reflects the best seasonal ingredients available, as well as fish flown in directly from Japan. The experience consists of a series of small plates and a progression of seasonal nigiri. We are inspired by the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e, 一期一会, or “one time, one meeting. Our goal is not to recreate the sushiya of Japan, but to offer an experience that represents who and where we are, while respecting and honoring the traditions of edomae sushi. Inspired by the concept of omotenashi, but rooted in southern hospitality.
“★★★★★ Mujo is, without question, one of the finest omakase experiences in Atlanta. Every course reflects an extraordinary level of craftsmanship, precision, and respect for the ingredients. The progression of the meal is beautifully paced, allowing each piece to stand on its own while telling a larger culinary story. The quality of the seafood is exceptional, rivaling some of the best sushi experiences I’ve enjoyed around the world. Every bite showcases flawless technique, thoughtful seasoning, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity. Rather than relying on extravagance, Mujo lets the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the chefs speak for themselves. The intimate setting creates a sense of connection between the chefs and guests, making the experience feel both exclusive and welcoming. The staff is polished, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about ensuring every guest has an unforgettable evening. For anyone who appreciates true Edomae-style sushi, Mujo is a destination restaurant that is absolutely worth the reservation. Atlanta is fortunate to have a restaurant of this caliber. An easy 5-star experience. I look forward to returning the next time I’m in the city.”
“Mujō is a modern omakase sushi experience that focuses on carefully curated courses, premium ingredients, and a more refined approach to Japanese dining. The restaurant leans into the atmosphere as much as the food, with a minimalist interior and counter-focused setup that makes the meal feel more like a complete dining experience rather than just a sushi dinner. The lighting, pacing, and presentation all contribute to a calm and intentional setting that fits the style of the restaurant. The omakase menu is the highlight, with a progression of appetizers, sushi pieces, soup, dessert, and small finishing bites that showcase different textures and flavors throughout the meal. The sushi focuses on high-quality seafood with precise preparation, and the balance between traditional techniques and more creative touches keeps the experience interesting. Standouts include richer ingredients like fatty tuna and wagyu, along with more luxurious additions such as caviar and foie gras that add variety to the progression. One of the things that makes Mujō stand out is the attention to details beyond the sushi itself. The small bites and composed courses help break up the meal, creating a better flow compared to an omakase that is only focused on serving piece after piece of nigiri. The Foie Gras Monaka is a memorable example of the restaurant’s more creative side, combining Japanese presentation with unexpected flavors. The sesame ice cream also makes for a strong ending, giving the meal a lighter finish after the heavier courses. The service plays a major role in the overall experience. The staff guides the meal smoothly, explaining each course and maintaining the pacing throughout the dinner. The drink pairings are also worth considering since they are designed to complement the different flavors across the menu rather than just being an additional option. Reservations are essential, and the experience is definitely positioned as a special occasion meal rather than an everyday sushi stop. The price reflects the ingredients, service, and level of detail involved, so it comes down to whether you are looking for a memorable dining experience rather than simply the best value sushi meal. Overall, Mujō delivers a polished omakase experience that feels thoughtfully designed from start to finish. The combination of quality seafood, creative courses, intimate atmosphere, and attentive service makes it one of the more elevated sushi experiences in the area.”
“This was our first time experiencing an omakase dinner. We had an appointment set for 5:30 PM, but severe Atlanta traffic combined with flash floods caused us to arrive much later than expected (almost 6:15 PM). The staff was incredibly accommodating and generous, seamlessly getting us up to speed at our Omakase Table without making us feel rushed. The entire dining experience, paired with the exceptional drink program, was top-notch. The staff did an amazing job guiding us through the menu, recommending beverage pairings that perfectly complemented the sushi without making the experience feel intimidating. The culinary team was efficient, and the explanations for each course were wonderfully short and clear. However, it did feel like the dessert course was a bit rushed compared to the rest of the meal, which slightly broke the beautiful, bite-by-bite flow of the evening. One minor detail on the atmosphere- transitioning from the bright outdoors into the restaurant was a bit straining on the eyes due to the sudden shift from bright light to a very dark, moody ambience. Having a slightly more moderate transition lighting zone at the entrance could be a beneficial adjustment for arriving guests. As my first Michelin experience with my girlfriend, this is an evening we will always remember. Thank you so much for having us!”
“Remarkable sushiya experience in Atlanta's ascendant omakase scene. We loved the lighting design, which highlighted the cuisine while creating a light dam in front of the counter and behind the guests—from which the ninja-like staff served with stealth and precision. The charcoal-kissed wagyu (an addition to the 13-course prix fixe menu) stole the show with fat-rendered smoke enveloping the room for a wonderful few moments. The standard wine pairing was surprisingly meh, with some questionable couplings. (Next time, we'd opt for bottles off the impressive wine list.) Playlist was on point. Super fun (and expensive!) experience!”
“Mujo was an awesome Omikase experience, especially at a Michelin star restaurant. You get 3 appetizers, 10 pieces of nigiri sushi, mid soup after piece 5, dessert, green tea, and a final bite of sweet gummies. Everything I tasted was delicious except for the sea urchin. You also have the option to add a drink package or you can order single drinks. There’s also a couple of additional food items you can purchase, which would be the crab shell that we got. The chefs were essentially one on one with your party and you got to see them cut all of the fish right in front of you. They tell you what they’re giving you with each item. The place was very small and quiet with good music playing. The bathroom was really nice with a heated toilet seat and a lovely scent. Overall, I enjoyed the experience but I definitely don’t think the cost was worth it. I left hungry and the amount of food you get for the price isn’t fair. The service was top notch though!”
