Italian-American Signatures. Venice After Dark. Scopa Italian Roots is the Venice restaurant that has stayed in demand for more than 11 years by betting on discipline instead of reinvention. Chef Antonia Lofaso built this kitchen on family lineage from Naples and Calabria, formal training in New York, and a career spent in high-pressure kitchens before Scopa ever opened. The food that comes out of this room is not modern Italian. It is old-school Italian-American cooked at a professional LA standard, and it holds up the same way on a packed Saturday as it does on a quiet Monday. Founded by Mario Guddemi and Salvatore Aurora alongside Chef Lofaso, Scopa sits on the same hospitality backbone as Black Market Liquor Bar, The Chestnut Club, DAMA, and Old Lightning. This is a Venice institution built on neighborhood patronage and Italian tradition, not a chef vanity project. 2905 Washington Boulevard, Venice. Open nightly.
“LOVE this place! It’s our “we-want-good-food-and-cocktails-without-having-to-search” spot ;) We go often, bar sit most of the time. Love the bar decor, staff is super friendly. Food is really to die for. We’ve had everything on the menu and nothing disappoints! Go, enjoy, you’ll definitely go back :D”
“I had a really great experience here. The food was really good and so was the service. We got the baby beet salad which was amazing. The rigatoni was so my favorite pasta on the menu with such great flavor and great sauce. I would also recommend the squash blossoms and ricotta!”
“The bread!!!! Can we have a moment for the garlic rub ciabatta bread!!! Every single dish we ordered was absolutely incredible. The rigatoni was to die for the mushrooms, the brussels sprouts salad, I mean every single dish did not disappoint. I would come back over and over again. Now we’re gonna need Chef to open a location in Orange County! Shout out Kanaka!!’ Thank you!”
“We made reservations for a later time but arrived about an hour early because we were starving. They weren’t too busy so they switched our reservation and sat us down almost immediately. Service was good, though there was some confusion as to who was our waiter. I think the manager came over at first to take our drink order because we were sat for a while. But because we sat for so long without anyone stopping by, we were ready to order by the time the manager came over. We devoured the Eggplant Parmesan for our appetizer. Main dishes we got were the Creste Rigate and the Rigatoni. Both dishes were fire!!! We also got the bread basket and even that was amazing!! It was garlic butter bread that was so warm and soft. This is by far one of favorite meals and I can’t recommend Scopa enough!”
“We were a bit disappointed with the food overall. The Brussels sprouts salad felt more like a cheese dish than a salad, as the amount of cheese in the dish doubled the Brussels sprouts, overpowering the greens. The clam linguine was heavy, with a lot of butter and salt. The broccolini had an overwhelming amount of lemon juice, making it very sour, and the crudo’s seasoning felt slightly off — the herb on top added a bitterness that didn’t quite work for us. The squash blossoms were the highlight, crispy, light, and really enjoyable. Service was warm and attentive throughout, which we appreciated.”
