Japanese Omakase Sushi Restaurant.
“We went to Ichifuji Sushi for my husband’s birthday and booked it about a week in advance. It was an omakase experience and honestly really special from start to finish. We sat at the sushi bar, which I highly recommend because you get to watch the chefs prepare everything in real time and interact with them throughout the meal. The chef was super friendly and talkative, which made the whole experience feel very personal and relaxed. It’s a set seasonal menu that changes depending on spring, summer, fall, or winter. A lot of the fish and seafood is flown in from Japan, while some is sourced locally, but everything tasted incredibly fresh and well prepared. The meal is 8 courses and takes about 2 hours total. Everything was delicious. It’s not cheap, but it’s absolutely worth it for the quality and experience. At the end they even took a photo of us with the chefs, printed and framed it, and included it with the check, which was such a thoughtful touch. 100% recommend for a special occasion.”
“Originally, I sought out Michelin star restaurants in the SD area but they didn’t have a lot of glowing reviews. I found out about Ichifuji through some Reddit forums for omakase’s. Ichifuji has routinely been one of the personal favorites of many users. I booked a reservation. It was about $160 before tax and tip. Definitely a lot cheaper than most of the Chicago ones and the quality of each course was exceptional. Our chef had a great sense of humor. Everyone was pleasant to talk to. I recommend coming here early before your reservation to secure a parking spot, at least an hour or more. The lot is shared with a Vietnamese restaurant and the parking lot is already small. We thought about parking in the bigger lot to the right but was unsure due to the towing signs. We’re from out of State so we didn’t want to risk it. If you have the money to spare with no kids, I recommend coming here.”
“Came here for my partners birthday and it was as good and better than expected. We like going to soichi for our special occasions but they aren't open on Mondays so we decided to give Ichifuji a shot and it didn't disappoint. The whole dinner was amazing from start to finish. Can not wait to come back and try the rest of the seasons.”
“Ichifuji Sushi was a major highlight of our family trip to San Diego. The atmosphere is very friendly and the shop itself has a great feel to it. The chef was exceptional—not only was he incredibly kind, but he was also extremely good at explaining the details of every dish. One technical detail I really appreciated was his use of a 30-day fermented ponzu sauce. It effectively balanced the richness of the fish and acted as a perfect palate cleanser between courses. The food was unforgettable, specifically: • Lobster Sashimi: This was unbelievable and easily the best thing I had. I never realized lobster could be so naturally sweet. • Sea Urchin: The uni was my second favorite—superb quality and very fresh. I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for top-tier sushi and a warm, personal atmosphere!”
“Had a fantastic experience at Ichifuji Sushi. The fish quality was exceptionally fresh and clearly handled with a lot of care and precision — easily the highlight of the meal. Every piece tasted clean, balanced, and high quality. Service was also outstanding from start to finish. Hiro-san and his staff created a warm, welcoming atmosphere that felt genuine, not forced. Yuki was especially attentive throughout the evening, always on top of the water, ocha, and appetizers without ever being intrusive. Small details like that make a big difference and did not go unnoticed. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was that a couple of the appetizers didn’t quite reach the same level as the sushi itself. They were still enjoyable, just not as memorable as the rest of the experience. Overall, though, this is absolutely a place I would return to and confidently recommend to anyone serious about fresh fish and thoughtful hospitality.”
