Usonia is a Finger Lakes vineyard and winery producing low-intervention wines from organic, biodynamic, and otherwise sustainably farmed fruit. Founded in 2020 by wife and husband team Julia and Alex Alvarez-Perez, we make vibrant wines from classic and cutting-edge varieties. Utilizing both time-honored and experimental techniques, we aim to produce honest and exciting interpretations of the place we call home. And gee golly look at those labels! Tastings are intimate, hosted on our farm, and guided by Julia or Alex. They run about an hour and currently do not include food. While walk-in tastings are sometimes possible if the timing is right, the only way to guarantee you can taste is to make a reservation here!
“Randomly stopped by here after doing a different tasting near by. They are by appointment only but Julia was very nice enough to accommodate my wife and I. And let me just say boy were we so glad that we decided to stop by. This is hands down some of the best low intervention / natural wine coming out of NYS right now. The husband and wife duo who run this place are so incredibly knowledgable and passionate about wine and have put together a lovely and welcoming winery. We tried a variety of different grapes, many we have not heard of before and some which are recently developed by Cornell and don't even officially have a name yet. They are literally on the cutting edge of new experimental wine, but yet the cab franc for example couldn't be truer in its essence to a text book definition of a really good cab franc. We left with 4 bottles and will definitely be on the look out for them at our local wine stores. We really look forward to coming back here and hopefully you guys will have some cool merch by then ;) This place should be in your top 5 wineries to visit in the finger lakes region for your next trip there.”
“So delicious innovative and cool! Love to see this project in the finger lakes and enjoyed such a personal experience”
“Great people who are doing innovative things in winemaking and viticulture resulting in excellent wine! Be sure to make a reservation before you go.”
“These wines blew us away. Left with a 6 pack but now regretting not getting more. Very nice small group setting for wine tasting.”
“Usonia is a great little winery right near Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes that we did a tasting at. For $15pp, we tried 5 delicious wines and had a really informative chat with Eric, one of the winemakers, about his process and lots of background on the company. We checked out the vines afterwards. Highly recommend going here for a more natural wine experience in the Finger Lakes. Thank you to the nice man at Aldaskeller Wines in Rochester for the recommendation!”
