This brand-new restaurant is an absolute gem, and the chef is incredibly talented. We enjoyed the Chef’s Birthday Tasting Menu, and every course felt thoughtful, creative, and beautifully executed. The wine pairings were excellent and complemented each dish perfectly. We left feeling completely spoiled! The standout for us was the birria tostada—it may have been one of the best things we’ve ever eaten. Every bite was packed with flavor. If you’re looking for a special dining experience with exceptional food, wonderful service, and a chef who clearly loves what he does, Balandra Tapas is a must-visit. “We enjoyed everything we ordered. We had bread and three different butters, caprese salad, grilled peppers, duck breast and raspberry dessert. Every dish is accompanied by a reduction or sauce that perfectly balances it. Thank you for a wonderful meal!”

“We went as a party of 5, celebrating a birthday, and ordered a good amount of the food on the menu to share. All I have to say is that each dish that came out was just as good or better than the last. We couldn’t stop commenting on how delicious everything was. I wish I’d taken more photos but I at least got some of the desserts. We ordered one of everything so we could sample it all and the birthday girl was treated to a chocolate crème brûlée that wasn’t even on the menu (on the house). Also, it was so nice of Chef Ivan to come visit our table and answer questions (though we mostly just complimented his craft). His brother runs a pastry school in Tijuana, so he mentioned that the desserts are his brother’s creations. Clearly, a very talented family in the culinary arts. Can’t wait to go back!”

What makes this place even more special is the story behind it. The owner is incredibly hardworking and talented. I remember when he used to talk about his dreams of growing and creating something big — and now seeing him achieve this is truly inspiring. We had Ivan the master pz behind the line and chef come to our table we ask questions and he give us the best recommendations making sure we had the best experience.
