Butcher & Singer, in the amazing historic location of 1500 Walnut, is an intimate and sophisticated dining experience in a relaxed clubhouse setting. We brought back the true classics from perfect Manhattans and Sidecars to hand-cut steaks and chops, and freshly caught fish. Timeless and fun for all in the continued age of the American chophouse.
“Been to steakhouses all over the country and nobody hits opulence and elegance like B&S. Dark lighting, jazz music, and ridiculously tall ceiling gives roaring 20s vibes. The crab cake was virtually all lump crab meat. Delicious. We had the filet and scallops and the delmonico. Steaks were cooked perfectly and worth every penny. The au poivre sauce on the side was decadent. The biscuits to start are special and the turtle cheesecake we got Togo gave the hotel an extra star. 10/10 experience”
“My boyfriend and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary, and it exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the beautiful ambiance and the intimate atmosphere. The service was outstanding. Brian was extremely knowledgeable, and every recommendation he made was spot on. The stuffed hash browns and steak were absolutely delicious. We’re so glad we chose this place and will definitely be returning!”
“Philadelphia honestly doesn’t get enough credit for how incredible its food scene is, and Butcher & Singer completely proved that to me. From the moment we walked in, the whole experience felt special, classic atmosphere, beautiful space, attentive service without ever feeling overwhelming. I have to start with the biscuits because I’m still thinking about them. I used to live in Nashville, Tennessee, a city famous for amazing biscuits, and somehow these were the best biscuits I’ve ever had in my life. Perfectly warm, buttery, soft, and unforgettable. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The baked oysters were fantastic, the lobster tail was cooked perfectly, and the steak was exactly what you hope for when you go to a great steakhouse, rich, flavorful, and executed flawlessly. It was also my first time trying Baked Alaska, something I’d always been curious about, and it completely lived up to the anticipation. It was spectacular and instantly became one of my favorite desserts I’ve ever had. The entire evening felt elevated yet comfortable, the kind of restaurant that stays in your memory long after you leave. Butcher & Singer is easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Philadelphia, and I already can’t wait to come back.”
“My experience at Butcher and Singer was beyond expectations! The restaurant was beautiful and service could not have been better. Beef tartar was refreshing, and the recommended stuffed hash browns were perfectly buttery and crisp. The steaks were cooked and seasoned well, while the true star of the evening was the Lemon ice box cake! This was a very memorable meal I’ll never forget, the hype is truly justified.”
“Food: Delicious. We ordered several variations of steak and seafood and appetizers with large shareable style sides. The food did take quite some time to prepare but it was hot and everything seasoned well. The biscuits were a stand out, flaky buttery, perfect. I ordered salmon with the scallops. The scallops were a $22 add-on, volume wasn't worth the price but overall good food. Service: A reservation was made approx a week prior for a group of 8. Our reservation was for 6:30, we arrived at 6:15 and were seated around 7:20. The lobby was busy and there was no seating at the bar or the general area by it. We had to linger outdoors until our table was ready. It was approx. 90 degrees that day and fresh out a meeting so a tad bit inconvenient. The waiter was friendly but distracted due to the busy state of the restaurant. Atmosphere: Clean, dark, vintage style, business casual attire, moderately loud but not overbearing. I will likely return as I travel to the area independently however not certain if I would select this location for large group dining. Positive experience overall.”
