“My husband and I enjoyed date night at Caroline’s! We shared the Mediterranean Mezza Platter and loved it! Steak was cooked perfectly and the beet salad was delicious! Our first time there. We will be returning!”
“Wow, what a positive exception in the uniform mishmash of American restaurants! We came here with high expectations upon the recommendation of locals. And: We were not disappointed. A professional chef who knows his craft is apparently cooking here. The menu is supplemented by daily offers and these are definitely not burgers or fried chicken. In this way I enjoyed Blue Whiting, which I have never seen before in an American restaurant. Against all expectations, the prices are reasonable, here and there even lower compared to other local restaurants and bars. Highly recommended!”
“Two words.. "Millionaire's Bacon" my family and I were staying at the "Julien Hotel" for the weekend for my daughter's " Yes to the Dress" @ " All In One Bridal" so we were looking for to Breakfast at " Caroline's" the atmosphere wasn't so warm. Our hosts was as " COLD" as the Ice Berg Mrs. Caroline Family used to sell! But, when Holly and Jason ( Service) greeted us at our table with the most infectious attitudes, we quickly forgot about who seated us! You have to try EVERYTHING! From the mimosas to creme brulee French toast! Chef Michael given that shrimp and grits a good old New Orleans touch! I will return the weekend of June 28th to celebrate my birthday! Caroline's live performance for Pride Weekend!”
“The new menu seems to be an attempt to modernize but comes up short. The duck appetizer falls short tasting more of fried breading than duck and is insubstantial. The pork belly starter is stronger with good combination of multiple kinds of apples, and a nice smokey pork flavor but is overcooked and stringy, could be better braised. The hanger steak suffers from its HP style steak sauce being overdone, that the dish would be better without it, and it's fried onions make it seem lower class than what it's trying to be. I prefer their older version of the ribeye they had last year over this. The grilled pork chop is excellent, highlighting the best qualities of Iowa pork in a well done sweet potato mash and peach relish. I prefer what this place used be giving you an somewhat "pretend" elevated dining experience you'd find at larger cities but having to service a lower price in the area. I understand wanting to modernize with the changes but they also "modernized" the price that given cost of living differences in larger cities. Brazen is a better option nearby trying to do what Caroline's is doing now.”
“I had a mixed but overall pleasant experience at Caroline’s. The atmosphere is charming—quiet, classy, and located inside the historic Hotel Julien, which adds a nice touch of elegance. Breakfast was good. My husband enjoyed his corned beef hash (he is a connoisseur) and I enjoyed the huevos rancheros. Portions are very generous. Service was lacking, unresponsive and not attentive. All in all, Caroline’s is a solid spot for a relaxed meal, especially breakfast or brunch. Just know it can be a bit inconsistent depending on the day or the dish. I’d return, but with slightly adjusted expectations.”
