“This was a very cool bar/restaurant. We stopped in for a drink and an appetizer. We were traveling in the area and heard this area was a cool place to go. There are quite a few bars in this City, we ended up at Boxcar. We sat at the bar and had wonderful service from the bartender. We had a number of good conversation with her. We ordered off their happy hour. The boom boom shrimp was delicious. I got a non alcoholic sour, which was quite tasty. My wife got a couple of local brews. which she liked very much. There was a cool vibe throughout and pretty cool looking. Would definitely come back again and try their full menu.”

“Really great option on this side of town. The server was very sweet, she moved just a little too slow which is my only complaint. The food is great, the boom boom shrimp was really good and burger. But I wasn't that big of a fan of my bulgogi bowl. The server was honest that some people don't like it. I added a picture of it. It was pretty. But I'm adding it because I couldn't find one online.”

“Parking: QCode...it was free for 1st 2 hours. Plenty of parking. Close to the beltline. Server: CJ was awesome, friendly and funny. Atmosphere: The vibe is upbeat. I like it. Nice place for dates, hanging with friends or family. Food: They just changed the menu. What I ordered was average. I will try again. Drinks: My drink i like. I will order it again the persimmon martini. Overall: I will try again. Everyone that informed me aboutthis place, said the food is awesome.”

“Our initial visit to Box Car at Hop City West End in December 2025, after a Holiday musical, was intended to be an enjoyable experience. We made a reservation for a group of 11 and were assured of adequate accommodation. However, upon arrival, we were seated at two square tables and one round table, a clear deviation from our request, which we reluctantly chose to overlook. The delay in taking our orders was unacceptable, and it was evident that the restaurant was severely short-staffed. When our food finally arrived, it was disappointing to find that several orders were incorrect. The waitress returned the plates, but, to our dismay, they were brought back unchanged. My order was completely missing, and the food served was cold with improperly cooked meat. The manager's apology and the offer of a few 10% off cards were inadequate and did nothing to redeem the experience. Regrettably, our second visit in March 2026 was equally disappointing. My husband and I decided to give the restaurant another opportunity, and at first, the service and food seemed satisfactory. However, my husband discovered that one of his wings was still covered in feathers. We immediately alerted the waitress, who then brought the matter to the attention of the manager. Both the manager and the cook came to offer their apologies, citing "issues" in the kitchen. The situation was exacerbated by the cook’s visibly dirty fingernails, raising serious food safety concerns. While the manager refunded our bill, which was the least they could do, it was too little too late. After multiple opportunities and consistent failures, compounded by significant cleanliness issues, we will never return to or recommend this restaurant.”
