Bocca Ristorante is an Italian restaurant in the Downtown Birmingham neighborhood of Birmingham.
“While visiting Alabama, we decided to come to Birmingham and check out the city. My husband found this place on a whim since it was a Wednesday night, and we decided to give it a try. We were blown away by the quality of service we received from the moment we stepped in. The host seated us right away and was very accommodating to our needs. I didn’t catch her name, but she was extremely polite and friendly. She even opened the door for us as we left. Our server, Logan, did a phenomenal job! Even while managing a large party of 30, he made sure we received our food on time. I ordered a fruity and herbal mocktail, and I’m not sure what he told the bartender, but it was made to perfection! He consistently checked on us to make sure everything was okay. Lastly, we had the pleasure of meeting one of the executive chefs, Che Gaines, which was an honor. The meals we ordered, as shown in the pictures, were cooked and seasoned perfectly!! I ordered Fritto Misto to start, then Braised Beef Short Rib, and my husband had the Chicken Piccata. The atmosphere was amazing — very quiet, with dim lighting and overall romantic vibes. The décor was simple, elegant, and modern. We were slightly underdressed, and this is definitely a place to visit for an anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or any date night. I highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed! If I have the opportunity to visit AL again, I will be sure to return. 10/10!”
“From the moment we walked in, Bocca Ristorante felt like home. The ambiance was cozy, relaxing, and perfectly designed soft lighting, warm colors, and an inviting atmosphere that made it the perfect spot for date night or a family dinner. Carlos, the GM, was on the floor personally checking in with every guest asking how the food was and making sure everyone was happy and satisfied. That level of care and presence is exactly how a GM should run a restaurant. It showed how much pride they take in creating a great experience. Our server, Tyler, was absolutely amazing. His energy was so refreshing kind, patient, and genuinely happy to serve. He made the night feel smooth and effortless. The drinks were incredible, especially the Circa 1975 my new favorite of all time a French 75 with a twist with Hennessy. The Fritto Misto (fried calamari, fried shrimp, and fried snapper) was perfectly cooked with a sauce that paired beautifully. The Panzanella Salad was fresh and light, and the Ribeye with mushrooms and potato gratin was rich, tender, and full of flavor. Everything was on point you could tell the chefs really put love into their food. The bar area was super cute and stylish I can’t wait to come back for happy hour just to enjoy that vibe. They even have a relaxing outdoor seating area in the back that’s perfect for winding down. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. Between the service, ambiance, and food, Bocca has truly mastered what dining out should feel like. You leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit and if dinner’s over, you can walk right next door to Sloan’s to keep the night going with amazing drinks. Highly recommend. 💫”
“Bocca has some absolutely amazing food and is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The bread service with focaccia and olive oil was a clear favorite for us, but the panzanella, chicken picatta, and shrimp scampi were all delightful. Service was decent when we visited but could have possibly been a little more attentive. The setting inside is very intimate but a little dated. The wine list was great and the sommelier was very helpful. Overall, we will definitely be back and would recommend this to anyone who loves good Italian cuisine.”
“My wife and I recently visited Bocca Ristorante to celebrate her birthday, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable, with our server Madison D leading the charge and the server assistants being incredibly attentive throughout the evening. We began our evening with a bottle of Lassegue St. Emillion Grand Cru and a Ketel One vodka martini, both of which set the stage perfectly. The bread service quickly followed, featuring absolutely addictive focaccia paired with high-quality olive oil. For our antipasti course, we split a Caesar Salad (Romaine Hearts, Parmesan, Croutons, Anchovy), which was clearly made with house-made dressing—delicious and fresh. We also indulged in the Arancini di Riso (Risotto Croquettes, Vodka Sauce), which were to die for. The vodka sauce was probably the best I've ever had, and my wife, who typically doesn't enjoy vodka sauce, loved it. Moving on to the primi course, my wife had the Tagliatelle Bolognese (Grana Padano). While it had a depth of flavor, it was missing a certain something, though the noodles were perfectly cooked. I opted for the Linguini with Clams (Olive Oil, Lemon Zest, Crushed Red Pepper) and was absolutely delighted. This dish is my litmus test for any Italian restaurant, and Bocca Ristorante passed with flying colors. The clams were perfectly cooked, and the flavors were expertly balanced. For the secondi course, I asked Madison if there were any specials for the evening and was thrilled to snag the last order of Braised Beef Short Rib (Polenta, Red Wine, Artisanal Mushroom, Baby Carrots). While I've had arguably better short ribs elsewhere, this dish was unique with the polenta replacing the usual grits. The sauce was excellent, and the meat was incredibly thick and flavorful. In addition to sharing the short rib, my wife ordered the Chicken Picatta (Lemon Butter Sauce, Capers, Brown Butter Gnocchi). The sauce was excellent, the chicken perfectly cooked, but the brown butter gnocchi stole the show. If I could have a bowl of those gnocchi with the vodka sauce, my life would be complete. For my dish, I chose the Scallop Risotto (Creamy Vegetable Risotto, Red Pepper, and Basil Pesto). The scallops were well-seasoned and perfectly cooked, and the risotto didn't last long under my wife's fork either—it was fantastic. The red pepper and basil pesto was a fresh, incredible take that I absolutely loved. To finish, I took Madison's suggestion and tried a Carajillo instead of my usual iced Irish coffee, and it's safe to say I have a new favorite after-dinner espresso drink. The bartender is clearly a pro with both liquor and the espresso machine. My wife and I split the Italian Butter Crunch Doughnut (Toffee, Walnuts, Almonds, Salted Caramel Ice Cream) and a strawberry semifreddo, both of which were excellent conclusions to a wonderful dinner. In summary, Bocca Ristorante provided an exceptional dining experience with standout dishes, impeccable service, and an atmosphere perfect for a special occasion. Highly recommended.”
“Expensive anniversary dinner that ended up being one of the most disappointing meals we’ve had. The bread and oil were completely forgettable. Nothing special at all. The arancini was probably the best thing we ordered, and even that lacked much flavor. My eggplant parmesan was tiny and bland. The eggplant itself was practically nonexistent — mostly cheese and what tasted like straight-from-the-jar Rao’s sauce. The veal Marsala was the biggest letdown. The plate had maybe 4–5 tiny pieces of veal instead of an actual cutlet, and the gravy was awful. The best comparison I can make is Dinty Moore canned gravy: overly salty, thick, and goopy. Just terrible. For a Saturday night, there were no specials or additional featured dishes offered, which made the experience feel even less impressive for the price point. We spent $250 on our anniversary dinner and walked away shocked at how bad it was. I genuinely do not understand how this restaurant has so many positive reviews. The photo of the veal says it all.”
