“What a find --- discreetly hidden behind a subtle door in the Intercontinental's restaurant/bar, I found a brilliant little spot to have a good book in one hand and an exceptional beverage in the other. These were not your typical cocktails, and they were vastly superior to typical hotel drinks - Frankly, it feels a little wrong to even make such a comparison. As I always do when visiting a new place (assuming it's not too busy), I ask the bartender for "Dealer's choice - Something in the old-fashioned family, whiskey forward." What I got was a cocktail pairing Laphroaig with coconut rum and tobacco bitters. Who even does that‽‽ Ray does. It was easily one of the more interesting drinks I've had in a long time --- Perfectly balanced, expertly presented, and thoughtfully creative. The second drink was totally different yet equally impressive. In conversation with him, I would come to realize that this is Ray's house --- These are his drinks, and as he's the only Loyall bartender, if Ray's off, the space is closed. To add to that, he's a really nice guy, great conversationalist, and exceptional at what he does. If you like intimate spaces with superb cocktails, find Ray at Loyall. Brilliant!”

“Sooo.... This was the BEST experience I've had out chilling in Boston. Hands down. Our host Ray treated us like we were VIP and was warm, patient, friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. I got to smell tobacco bitters and having a fine fragrance background I was blown away. The drinks were thoughtfully crafted, boozy like you want them, and educational as well. This experience was unforgettable and I cannot recommend it enough. Unequaled compared to the speakeasys I've attended in NYC, my hometown. Thank you for everything, Ray and Loyall Counting Room. “Forget the other reviews— if you haven’t been here in the last 3 weeks, you don’t know what Loyall is doing these days. Rey is here now and has completely revamped the beverage program at this hidden gem of a speakeasy. Inventive, high quality cocktails- something for everyone who enjoys drinking for pleasure not to get wasted. Rey is a wealth of knowledge and was so attentive during our visit. This speakeasy has one of the more fun hidden entrances I’ve experienced in Boston. You check in with a host at the nearby bar, and they had you a scroll with tonight’s password on it. Then you open a hidden door in the wall and enter a library-esque alcove, and must place you scroll in a hidden drawer before speaking the password to be let in. Under Rey’s guidance, Loyall has the power to become a must-go destination like other speakeasy favorites in the city. Definitely stop by sometime and experience an atmosphere and cocktail program inspired by rebellion and revolution. Our favorite drinks of the night were: The Incident on King’s Street Hive Society Brewer’s Dissent But everything we tried was truly so well balanced and thoughtfully prepared and presented. Bonus, you get a little history with every drink!”

“Inside the beautiful new Fellini bar at the Intercontinental this speakeasy is a dark oasis. Each drink tells a story. Who doesn’t love history and drinking! The drink menu is in a leather bound book full of interesting stories about the revolution and the drinks that fueled it. Bartender was excellent and definitely passionate about his spirits.”
