J.W. Heist Steakhouse is a Steakhouse restaurant in the Downtown neighborhood of Bozeman.
“My husband and I had dinner at JW Heist tonight and had such a wonderful experience. The food and atmosphere were excellent, but what really stood out was the service. Our server, Henry, was fantastic — attentive, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations throughout the evening. We also needed to place a last-minute to-go order after the kitchen had already closed, and Ryan, the sommelier, went above and beyond to help us coordinate an order from the restaurant next door. That level of hospitality and care is rare and so appreciated. We will absolutely be back!”
“Jordan and Porter were amazing service! The guys grilling were friendly and showed us our steak beforehand! We ordered scallops, mushrooms, Brussel sprouts broccolini and the famous tomahawk for 2. As you can see my friend really enjoyed the steak and the bone was phenomenal. Definitely get a reservation!”
“My boyfriend and I came here for dinner for our one-year anniversary. The resturaunt accommodated my seating request on the reservation, and the service was fantastic. We had two soups, two cocktails, two entrees, and shared a dessert. It was affordable and very impressive. I suggest ordering one of the composed plates for your entree, as those come with sides and a beautifully plated main. We will be returning.”
“It is a trap! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!! The atmosphere was pretty but very loud. I was excited when I sat down and read the menu. It all sounded so delicious! But that’s where my enjoyment stopped. We placed our order and began our wait. My husband and my daughter ordered the French onion soup, it was hearty like a stew and they enjoyed it for the most part, the cheese was hard to eat but the flavor was good. I ordered the steakhouse chop salad that came with pork belly that cost $17. The lettuce was watery and wilted. It had no flavor. The pork belly had flavor but some bits were mushy. After waiting for 50 more minutes (after soup and salad) our food came out. My $100 PRIME ribeye was burnt. One side was barely browned and the other side had burnt pieces that tasted like charcoal. I had ordered medium rare and it was medium at best. It was thin and in no way PRIME! They also charge me $6 for the horseradish!!!! When I told the waiter he responded with, “ya that is usually how we cook our steaks, have a few more bites and I’ll have the manager come over.” The manager came over and I explained the issue. He was shocked by the time it took but didn’t seem shocked that it was not cooked properly. At this point it was 8:40 (20 minutes before close) and he did not even offer me another steak, he offered me scallops. About 10 minutes later (after my family had finished their meal) I was delivered scallops on rice or risotto, either way it tasted like Parmesan rice a roni. There was sand in the scallops. The manager asked me how it was, I said it was better than the steak but there were some bites of sand in them, to which he giggled and said, really? I have never heard that before. Overall, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!! My teenager could have made me a better meal than this. They removed the steak and scallops but did not offer any other way of making it up to us.”
“My first experience in September with Lindsey as our server was awesome so I was excited to go back. I had Jameson as a server this time and he needs a lot more training. I ordered a filet medium with house steak sauce and Brussel sprouts and a cocktail (of which I wanted a second one but Jameson disappeared). Easy enough. It took nearly an hour for my food to come out (I went after 8 so it wasn’t busy) and the steak was well done and the Brussels were horrible with the stems still attached. I waited 15 minutes for a server to check in or walk by to ask for a correct steak and no one ever came. I was so hungry by then I began trying to eat it, though it was so dry it was nearly impossible even with sauce. Jameson showed back up about a half hour after I had gotten my food to offer to box what was left. I took the steak home for my dog. It was such a horrible $100 experience I definitely won’t be returning again.”
