“Absolutely loved this Spanish tapas spot! Started with the la portilla mushrooms — incredible flavor, and perfect for someone like me trying to eat more mushrooms for their health benefits. The lamb bites were tender and delicious, though I would've loved a bit of bread to soak up that amazing marinade. The grilled peppers were a new revelation — I've never had anything like them. La bomba was special, with its flavorful meat tucked inside mashed potatos. The grilled beef cheek was perfectly cooked — moist, tender, and full of flavor. But the real surprise was the dessert: their homemade version of a luxury Nutella served with fresh sourdough bread. Genius! Every dish was a hit. Highly recommend!"”

“That was one of the best meals I've ever had. My friend and I decided to try Malagon, one of the restaurants Michelin awarded a Star. I hadn't heard it talked about as much as the other star winners. Oh. My. Gosh. The place is tiny, but it was a charming spot. Service was incredible - attentive but not overbearing. We started with marinated lamb in a paprika sauce, which was tender and full of flavor. The "potato bomb" was incredibly savory, stuffed with pork and cheese, surrounded by a spicy tomato sauce. My main course was the Iberico Secreto - a pork skirt steak that was so tender and juicy, with a sweet quince sauce and toasted pine nuts. But the finale was even better: Basque Cheesecake. This is unlike any cheesecake you've ever imagined. It left my friend speechless. It was rich, but not too rich; sweet, but not too sweet; and the cheese was tangy. Topped with some flaky salt, this was one of the best things I've ever had. If you haven't been to Malagon, make reservations now... this is totally worth it. And it really wasn't that expensive, considering downtown, quality of the food and service, and a Michelin star. Incredible.”

“Our dinner at Malagon was incredibly special. We hadn't had many opportunities to try such authentic Spanish cuisine, so we were very excited for our reservation. We tried several small plates from the menu to share. My husband has a serious shellfish allergy, so we were sure to communicate that to our server, who had the chef speak with us about his specific restrictions, and although the kitchen is small and difficult to insure against cross-contamination, they did a wonderful job making sure our food had no contact with shellfish. We had the Sobrasada con queso which is a bread with honey, soft chorizo, and goat cheese that was delicious. My favorite of the night was the La Bomba de la Barceloneta, a pork stuffed mashed potato “bomb” with tomato & alioli. My husband loved the Zorza de cordero marinated lamb, and Conejo al Ajillo which was roasted rabbit. We ended our dinner with the Tarta de queso, a Basque cheese similar in consistency to a cheesecake, but much more rich and slightly sweet. Every single dish we tried was an incredible experience. We were well taken care of by the servers and kitchen staff, and the environment was intimate and buzzing with energy. It was genuinely one of my favorite dinners yet in Charleston, and we will definitely be visiting again.”
