The Rockhill Grille - Crossroads

“We walked in based on reviews, etc, and felt a little underdressed as we have been traveling, and there were many people here on work lunch or business lunches. However, we were not treated any differently than anyone else here dressed professionally, etc. The hostess, waitress, and server were all fantastic. The food was great, my cosmopolitan was perfect. If we lived locally, we'd definitely eat here frequently! Thank you guys for a wonderful meal!”

“Perfectly laid-back atmosphere and friendly service made my trip to Rockhill Grille a memorable one. From excellent appetizers — including wonderfully sweet bruschetta and a great take on indulgent, extra-large tater tots — to an array of entrees that seem to be elevated above the norm. Our Cobb salad and burger with truffle fries serve as fine examples.”

“Our server was great, she was very attentive to our table and gave great suggestions for us since it was our first time in. I got the KC Strip since I've heard good things about the beef in Missouri and can vouch for it now. The bone marrow butter was a huge umami boost to an already delicious steak and the mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth while the asparagus had some grill flavor on them as well. My wife got the turkey club and was raving about it all night.”

“Dinner before a show. We had reservations and we're seated upstairs right away. The area gave me a 1920's vibe, dark wood walls with plenty of lighting but it set a great mood. I told my wife, they should have the curtains open for a beautiful view of downtown KC. After sitting with our backs to those same curtains we found out why they were closed. It was so cold and the curtains were moving...like the air conditioner was on. Juan dud a marvelous job of taking care of us, thank you Juan. The deviled eggs with Pimento cheese and Peppadew peppers were really good. My wife had the Steak Frites with an expresso rub. Cooked just right but tasted kinda burnt, she said. I got the Rockhill burger and it is too beef patties with Tillamook cheese and Rockhill sauce. It had so much flavor. The surprise were the tater tots. Four large tots with cheese on the inside and a garlic aioli. No need for ketchup... nooooo. They were perfect on their own. Overall a wonderful meal. Next time we will try something different on the menu.”

“I hate to write a review that isn’t glowing but I believe it needs to be shared. Really wanted to like this place more than we did! It was a sort of busy Sunday night. We entered and got stuck behind a group with no reservation that wanted to argue with the host and we stood awkwardly waiting for a few minutes. I know that’s not their fault. Take note to make a reservation if you don’t want to wait. We were seated and given water and then nobody came back for over five minutes. We made a note in our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday (yes, it actually was that day) and it was not acknowledged at all. In my photos everything looks amazing, but unfortunately it was not as good as it looked. The loaded tater tots were pretty good but needed more salt. The garlic aioli served with them was delicious and helped with the lack of salt. My small steak I asked to be cooked medium. One end was medium. The other end was well done. It was still tender and tasted good. The creamy steak sauce served with it was delicious. The fries were undercooked, not crispy. I’m not sure if the onions on top of the steak were supposed to be pickled, but they didn’t look pickled. They looked unappetizing. Did not eat them. I had a side Caesar salad that was full of brown pieces of lettuce. The cornbread croutons on the Caesar were not crunchy, they were cold and soggy. Nice flavor but only came with 2 croutons on the side salad, and I would expect a crouton to have some crunch. We also got the Cajun chicken, some of the most tender and juicy chicken breast we’ve ever had, so that was a plus! But lacked seasoning again. If you’re going to call it Cajun it should be spicy and well-seasoned. The strawberry shortcake looked amazing, but when I went to take a bite, my spoon could not even cut through the bottom of the cake! I had to use my dinner knife! I know this is a traditional strawberry shortcake but I shouldn’t need a knife for my dessert. The cake had good flavor but was too hard/chewy, even with it soaking in a delicious pool of strawberry syrup. The whipped cream was literally just cream. It needed some powdered sugar and vanilla extract whipped in. Drinks were good and strong. A little too strong for my liking but that is just me. I would like to return to go upstairs and check out the Cleo Club bar, but I would not return here for dinner. It’s a bummer that many of the best restaurants in KC are closed on Sundays. Oh, and as far as dress code (there is not one) I felt overdressed, thought this was a nice restaurant, but there were people in there in workout clothes. I would not wear sports attire in this establishment, it doesn’t feel appropriate, but definitely could have gone more casual with just jeans and a blouse instead of a dress and heels. Overall it is a pretty establishment and I’m glad we checked it out.”
