The Loop by Hachiroku

“Most places serving ramen are playing dress-up—neon signs, loud playlists, menus bloated with bullshit designed to photograph well and taste like nothing. The Loop by Hachiroku doesn’t have time for that. This place cooks like it has something to prove—and backs it up. The broth comes out swinging: deep, aggressive, built with patience and a refusal to cut corners. It clings to the noodles the way it should, coating every bite with real flavor, not that watered-down, tourist-friendly nonsense you get in half the spots calling themselves “ramen bars.” And the noodles? They’ve got backbone. Bite. Resistance. The kind of texture that tells you someone in that kitchen actually gives a damn—maybe even loses sleep over it. Every element feels earned, not assembled. There’s no safety net here. No pandering. No soft edges to make it “accessible.” It’s focused, a little brutal, and completely unapologetic. Frankly, New Haven has no business being this good at ramen—but here it is, quietly embarrassing places in bigger cities that should know better. Eat here before it gets ruined by hype. Or don’t. More for the rest of us.”

“4.5 / 5.0 - I’d been to the Loop for Japanese groceries and sweets, but this was my first time trying their brunch, which they have on weekends, along with their lunch menu. They have cafeteria style seating and you order and pick up your food at the counter. It’s quite spacious with large picnic tables and bar seating, but it was almost full when we went past noon yesterday. It took time to order and get our food, so if you’re in a rush, it may be better to pick up pre-made lunches or sushi from the grocery store instead. I tried the Open Tamago Sando, which was so delicious I will definitely have to order again. The noodles didn’t have much broth or toppings, so maybe not the best option if you’re looking for something that’s not mostly carbs. They had outdoor seating, which will be nice once it’s warmer.”

“Fumio was awesome, and I had chirashi and the classic tonkatsu Ramen. It was so wonderful. The egg was so perfectly soft boiled. The flavors were incredible. The rice under the Chi was perfectly seasoned.***Edit*** THEY WON RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR! Now on my fourth visit, I got the Lobster Miso and can confirm it’s beyond delicious!! 1000% recommend and My Barista (get the dirty matcha latte iced!) Janet is super awesome and Abby is just as great!!!”

“Went to the restaurant for dinner with a friend. Literally half the menu wasn’t available (especially meat dishes) and the staff wasn’t even up to date on what they had. Service was just ok and it felt like every time the waitress brought out food or asked us a question she was interrupting our conversation—even though there were very few people in the restaurant so no tables needing to be flipped. Food was good but not good enough for how expensive it was. When the waitress brought the check, she hovered over me while I selected the tip, which really got on my nerves. I would’ve entered a lower tip if I could’ve (for basically not being able to choose my food because of the limited menu and for the mediocre service), but I couldn’t because she was right there. I was excited to eat here because I’ve heard good things but this was really a bad experience and I will not be going back.”
