Caffe Dante has been a beacon for the community of Greenwich Village since it opened its doors in 1915. Now a registered New York City landmark, this modest meeting house has always attracted people from all walks of life: famous actors, writers and musicians from the down-at-heel beatnik generation, all of whom have found solace in its relaxed and unpretentious environs. Now in its latest incarnation as Dante, its new owners — all lifelong industry professionals and old friends — have breathed new life into the iconic space while retaining its historical integrity. The Italian restaurant and bar functions as an all-day affair, serving artisanal coffee, pastries, aperitivo, flatbreads, antipasti, and a seasonal produce-driven menu, plus world-class cocktails — including the absolute best Negroni in the city, according to New York Magazine.
“This place is great! Such a good vibe. I love pulling up to this place on my motorcycle just to grab a drink + bite with my buddy and be on my merry way. Also, a perfect spot to do a double date & have a great conversation. It’s one of those places, you just can’t go wrong!”
“Just an amazing setting and experience. Bartenders are top shelf to go along with the drinks. I went with a Negroni and can't wait to visit again. Highly recommend. Perfect place to bring your wife or date or unwind.”
“We had a nice experience here so I have to give 5 stars. I have always wanted to come here but had a hard time finding a reservation and never wanted to wait. Made a 430 reservation thru Resy. After booking I realized that they didn’t start serving food until 5, so I e mailed the restaurant and they kindly moved it to 5 pm. We were able to sit inside in a cute corner booth which was great because we were both celebrating our birthday. We didn’t get drinks but ordered an early dinner. We split a salad and I had the truffle risotto and he had the pork chop. We also shared the broccolini. Everything was fresh and delicious. The pasta size was enough where I couldn’t eat all of it. The pork chop was cooked well. The broccolini was super spicy but still great. We didnt get dessert but they brought both of us a piece of tiramisu which was nice. The tiramisu was delicious and just what you would expect. Would come back here again, but will always make sure to have a reservation. It would also be fun sitting outside during the summer.”
“Pretty rare for a place to sincerely live up to the hype, but this spot surely did. Didn’t eat a full dinner, but had some snacks and some drinks and everything was solid all around. My favorites from the night were the Verde Flatbread and between the Grasshopper and Pear Negroni. Their tiramisu was also top notch, but I feel like that’s just expected. I’d never had Flourless Chocolate Cake before this, but from what I could tell they did a great job with it. The vibe inside is also top notch. Already thinking about another reservation for actual dinner. Super solid, definitely worth every dollar.”
“Café Dante in the West Village is an absolute gem! I stopped by for a casual evening and had a few appetizers along with a drink, and everything was delicious. I started with the mozzarella appetizer, which was fresh, creamy, and perfectly seasoned — a fantastic start to the meal. Each bite felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The drinks were equally impressive. The cocktails are carefully crafted, balanced, and enjoyable, making it clear that the bar program is taken seriously here. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which added to the overall relaxed and enjoyable experience. Beyond the food and drinks, the restaurant itself is such a vibe. The location in the West Village is perfect, and the decor combines classic charm with modern touches, creating an inviting and stylish atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for a place to sit for a leisurely meal or just a few drinks with friends, it feels comfortable and lively at the same time. Café Dante really delivers on all fronts: great food, expertly crafted drinks, friendly service, and an ambiance that makes the experience memorable. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy excellent Italian-inspired fare in a beautifully curated West Village setting.”
