“Despana is one of those rare places that, once you discover it, you can’t help but return to again and again. I first found it back in March, and it quickly became somewhere that feels like home. The staff—especially Antonio and Nathalia—are among the warmest, most welcoming people I’ve met in NYC. The food, particularly the DeNoche menu, is outstanding, and it’s my go-to spot for bringing friends and family to experience something special. I honestly can’t imagine my life in the city without having found this place. A true hidden gem.”
“Had time to kill in the area and wanted a quick bite. Checked out Despaña and loved the authentic vibe. Had the Corizo Bocadillo, chips and a beer. Love the ambiance, friendly service and food offerings and groceries.”
“I did the DeNoche dinner last night with 3 other people and we had a blast picking the tinned fish we wanted and enjoying the way they plated our selections with perfectly toasted bread and creamy butter. We got some pinxtos and the Caesar salad to round it all out and washed it down with crisp Albariño. Thanks to Paula for being a fabulous host!”
“I stopped by this little Spanish tapas bar in Soho, and it was such a lovely surprise. The atmosphere is simple and warm, with a friendly, almost family-style vibe. The service was very cordial, and even though the place isn’t trying to be fancy, it feels authentic in the best way. The food brought me straight back to my childhood. I tried the tortilla, a toast with calamari, another one with ham and cheese, and some croquettes — everything was delicious and comforting, just like my grandmother’s cooking. The flavors were exactly what Spanish tapas should be: honest, flavorful, and made with care. It’s a great spot to stop for a few bites, share a table, and enjoy real Spanish comfort food in a relaxed setting. Highly recommend if you’re craving something simple and genuinely good.”
“The overall flavor is clean and free from any artificial taste. It reminds me of the tapas I had in Spain. When paired with sangria, it nicely balances out any slight fishiness or saltiness from the cured meats.”
