Founded by Sardinian friends who fell in love with New York City and decided to make it their home, Epistrophy is one of those rare italian restaurants you can count on for breakfast, brunch, lunch, drinks, or dinner. You can go on a first date, meet a friend for lunch, or enjoy cocktails with a big group of girls, and either way you could very well be seated next to someone sipping a cappuccino as they bury themselves in a novel. Sit at the bar, relax on the couch, or find a spot at the community table, but wherever you sit you’ll feel so at home you might never leave. We proudly serve an organic, locally sourced menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner that is heavily based on our favorite Sardinian recipes and traditions. Thank you for being part of our community for over 10 years. We offer Happy Hour Monday-Friday 3:30-6:30pm.
“What a magical place . We stumbled upon it while walking to our from Astor place theater. It was Sunday night and many places were closing down but Epistrophy was still open. The sort sounds of live music were emanating though the open door. I asked two strangers sitting outside if the food was good. The men smiled enthusiastically and recommended this place for dinner. The endive citrus salad had richness of citrus flavor and crisp texture. Every pasta we had was cooked to perfection. Tiramisu as soft as a cloud. Mirto liqueur from Sardinia was something I never tried before. It has rich blueberry flavor. The staff was prompt, friendly and attentive.”
“Have been coming here on and off when I'm in the area for early 20 years and it never disappoints, always a great time. The food is solid, the ambiance perfect, the staff always friendly. Sitting here grabbing a glass of wine I can't believe I never left a review! I guess my first visit was before Google maps when it was cash only and I had to stumble down the block to a sticker covered atm machine at 1am to pay the tab after an amazing night, worth it. There are more expensive tweezer food shave truffle on everything Italian restaurants all over this city and you can have them, this is where I want to be.”
“Carlos was amazing. The food was incredible. I want to come back❤️❤️ Also, best place to be for a rainy or cold day. Many cute magazines here to read and find peace in a busy city! Such a sweet waitress a as well”
“Love the atmosphere and vibe of this place. Nice for a romantic date but a little bit lousy. The service was excellent and the food 4/5. The tomatoes 🍅 sauce for the food is amazing. And the chocolate mousse dessert is a MOST.. 😋😋”
“I went to this decent and pretty reasonably priced Italian spot with a group a while back. The place inside is charming, though a bit small, and our group sat on a table in the back that was slightly elevated from the rest of the restaurant. The service was alright, being friendly but a bit slow and haphazard. For instance, I got my main dish much later than everyone else, and another person's appetizer arrived at basically the same time as their entree. To drink, I had the very tasty Oreri for $17, listed as a Sardinian boulevardier with rye, Campari, Borghetti caffe liquor, and Mirto wild blueberry Sardinian liquor. The drink was delicious with a bitter-sweet flavor with a bit of light fruitiness, and I would recommend it. My appetizer was the Burrata for $17 with farm tomatoes, toasted almonds, celery, and red onion vinaigrette. The burrata wasn't the largest piece, but it was good, with there being plenty of tomatoes. The celery and almonds added some crunch and texture, and the vinaigrette was very light. As the dressing was light, it was a little under-flavored, needing some salt if they want to keep it simple, or perhaps the obligatory balsamic glaze you see a lot on burrata. I tried a bit of the Endive Salad for $16 with avocado, orange, croutons, and a citrus vinaigrette, which was bitter, refreshing, and tasty overall. If I recall correctly, no one else got an appetizer or salad otherwise. My main dish was the Bistecca Di Tonno for $29, listed as pan-seared tuna with spicy romesco sauce, hazelnut, and chickpeas. I ordered it rare, and the dish came out with the tuna properly seared, but it was unfortunately cold. As said, my dish came out later than everyone else, so possibly someone missed a queue. The rest of the ingredients were flavorful and worked well with the tuna, whether it was the slightly spicy and earthy romesco, the bit of crunch from the hazelnuts, or the chickpeas that retained some texture. If the tuna had been hot, it would have been much more appetizing, and I would have sent it back, but I already got my dish late, so I decided not to, or else I would have held up the rest of the meal. I tried a bit of the Malloreddus Alla Campidanese for $21, a Sardinian gnocchetti pasta with tomato sauce, sweet Italian sausage, and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. It was slightly salty, and the pasta had a unique texture and was decent overall. Another person had the Brasato, or braised short rib, which they enjoyed. Another person had the Pappardelle, which they seemed to like. We didn't bother with dessert at the end. The food was decent, but I wouldn't rush to go back.”
