“Had an amazing birthday dinner at Takumi Omakase last night. We had the $89 omakase course, and everything was absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. As a birthday surprise, I even received an extra piece of sushi from the chef, which made the experience feel extra special. Chef Li was incredibly kind, welcoming, and talented throughout the entire meal. Steven also gifted us a delicious cup of sake, which was such a thoughtful gesture. On top of that, the handwritten birthday card truly touched me and made the evening even more memorable. The food, hospitality, and attention to detail made this one of the best birthday dinners I’ve had. Thank you for such a warm and unforgettable experience — I’ll definitely be back!”
“Takumi Omakase in the LES was honestly one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in NYC. Instead of a fixed number of courses, the chef serves endless omakase piece by piece for about 90 minutes, and you can keep going until the time ends or until you decide you’re full. It makes the experience feel really personal and relaxed, and every piece is served fresh right in front of you. The fish quality was incredible and each piece was thoughtfully prepared by the chef. You can tell a lot of care goes into every bite. Also a fun little perk, if you leave a Google review, they offer complimentary sake, which is a great touch while enjoying the meal. Just make sure you save some room for dessert at the end… it’s worth it. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique omakase experience in the Lower East Side. “Dining at Takumi was an absolutely amazing from start to finish. The moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed. They were attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between elegant and relaxed, with soft lighting and an intimate counter that lets you watch each course being crafted with care. Every piece of fish was incredibly fresh, the textures and flavors speaking for themselves. Each bite reminded me how exceptional true omakase can be without breaking the bank. My wife and I had the endless omakase option. Highly recommended. The location is also great since it's near a lot of bars and clubs.”
“Me and my partner went for their endless omakase $118pp and we enjoyed the first few courses that came out however when it got to the “endless omakase” portion we were expecting it to be different from all the other AYCE omakase we tried because they promoted it as staying true to the quality instead of swapping the fishes out with a poorer quality which they did. But what got us disappointed was that they also said “Endless” so we were expecting to be able to request however many pieces of fish we wanted without compromising the quality like what other AYCE omakases do. Hence why we’re were willing to pay more than what other AYCE omakases were charging. But instead it was chefs choice so we weren’t able to request what we wanted we also couldn’t get however many pieces we wanted either. Total pieces I had was 32 pieces and that was within a 90min time frame which included the starting 15 pieces. Maybe for some of u guys you’d be able to get full off that but I could’ve had a couple more. A few other things that made it feel less like an endless omakase was the time constraint 90min we had a pretty slow chef who talked to the customers this meant he paused his work as he was talking so we also had to patiently wait till he stopped talking and go back to making our food. We also heard some staff say “are u almost done” to the sushi chef and they replied saying “no I have 2 more” so it felt pretty scripted to be exactly a certain amount of pieces you should be eating rather than it being truly endless. Additionally I felt like after the first 10 pieces there really wasn’t much flavor to any of them that really wowed us. It tasted pretty bland compared to other omakases we had. I did however liked the first 2 pieces we had and the squid. I understand they are still doing test trials so I hope they take this review as a way to improve and adjust. The service was ok. I liked the lighting that came from the window. However it was pretty cold inside the place or perhaps it was just me but I was freezing.”
“As others have previously posted, we felt that this place was a SCAM and had false advertising. My boyfriend and I booked the endless omakase experience here under the impression that once we finished the mandatory 27 piece course, we would be able to order our favorite pieces we enjoyed. Upon finishing the course and proceeding to the endless portion, we were served 3 random pieces from the chef’s choice before being informed our 90 minute time limit has ended. My boyfriend and I, along with the additional 6 other people who participated in the endless omakase experience were equally confused. One other couple and we confronted the manager regarding this fraudulent experience. From all the social media advertisements and posts online, everyone was able to order whatever pieces they wanted after the initial 27. The manager informed us it has always been this way, which we knew this was untrue because my boyfriend’s cousin had been here a week ago with the same exact booking and was allowed to choose the pieces he wanted. We also felt that at some point, he blamed the staff for not explaining the rules well enough, but we felt the problem was moreso the false advertisements online. After some discussion, the manager (??Jah) offered to refund each couple $50 ($25 pp) to cover the extra costs as the regular 27 piece course was $89, while the endless omakase was priced at $118. Otherwise, the service and our waitress was really nice. However, we did feel that the courses were intentionally spaced out long enough so that we would finish the 27 pieces close to the 90 minute time limit, as we had about 5 minute downtime after we finished eating between each plate of food for the most part. On the bright side, we did enjoy the seasonal yuzu sake we ordered on the side.”
