Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.
“Great gluten-free option in the theater district. I had the zucchini tacos with spicy kale. They were really fun and delicious. I’m going to try to replicate them when I get home. I also had the Black Fluke tacos, which they can make gluten-free, grilled instead of fried, with jicama slaw. These were also excellent. The guacamole is really good and they have three different spice level options. We’re going to try the hot ones next time. Their allergy symbols are tiny on the menu so get out your reading glasses. And they’re kind of unusually shaped there’s a key at the bottom of the menu. They have lots of options for regular carnivores.”
“Great totopos (chips) and lots of guacamole flavors. I had the beef rib tacos with bone marrow. Delicious! We really loved this place. My husband had the jicama salad with chicken. They gave him A LOT of really good chicken. Big drink menu including mocktails, We will be back.”
“My wife and I stopped here on the way home. We weren’t too hungry, but it looked interesting. And we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered a few appetizers to try some things that wouldn’t be too filling. We thoroughly enjoyed everything that we tried. First of all, the flavor of the bean dip with the chips was phenomenal. They took something so simple and added great flavor to it. The ambiance was fantastic. I always enjoy being able to see the chefs make food for you right in front of you. The service was great. I absolutely want to return to try more menu options!”
“Food was fresh and artfully done. Nice flavor profile to the rice and beans, not bland like many places. Tacos had a nice dance of unexpected flavors. Nice little gem we stumbled upon. We went on a Saturday around noon and everything was breezy.”
“Reservations highly recommended. We got there waited about 10min before getting seated. Michael was our server who was awesome. We were a table of allergies and dietary requirements and Michael took great care of us. Restaurant is very nice. Great menu choices. Spicy margaritas were the best. Perfect amount of spiciness and variety of flavors to choose from. We had chicken quesadillas which was flavorful, Baja fish taco which was good just blend. Chicken enchiladas were mouth watering and the trio chips and salad are a must. We celebrated a birthday so got churros which came with chocolate and caramel sauce. Great ambience here and evening was perfect.”
