Yosaku

“If you’re looking for legit Japanese food in Portland, Yosaku is one of those places that just hits. The food feels really authentic. Nothing overly Americanized or trying too hard. You can tell they stick to traditional Japanese flavors, which is honestly refreshing. Everything we had was super fresh, especially the sushi, which always says a lot. The bento boxes are also a great move if you want a little bit of everything. They’re simple, well done, and really satisfying. They also have some traditional Japanese-style seating, which is a nice touch if you want more of that authentic vibe. Service was great too. The staff was very attentive without hovering. They were on top of everything and made the whole experience easy. Overall, just a really solid spot if you want quality Japanese food that feels authentic. Definitely a place I’d go back to.”

“all the food and drink were very yummy! service was also great. they great you when you walk in and leave and checked on us multiple times. we made a reservation online, which i highly recommend as they do get busy around peak meals. i do wish they let you reserve a certain table type, but i get that can be hard!”

“Yosaku is a decent sushi spot in Portland. The food was fine, nothing that really stood out but nothing to complain about either. The decor and theme were kind of cool though, gave the place some character. I’d probably go back if I was in the area.”

“Just got back from Yosaku. Such a mixed experience. The food was awesome. The sushi was truly some of the best I've ever eaten. So fresh, served at perfect temperature (so many restaurants get this wrong), good cuts of fish. We got the rainbow roll, the spicy tuna, unagi nigiri and the "bagel" roll. If there was any complaint foodwise it truly was that there was almost too much fish in each roll. We were seated along the wall more with only a rice paper divider in between us and the next table, so that was odd. We were also close enough to the other table next to us that we could hear quite literally every single word they were saying. So that part wasn't great. But then, the service! The guy was truly The Very Worst Waiter I've ever had. He didn't say hello, he didn't give his name, he just rolled up and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We said no; then when we ordered our food, I swear on my grandmas grave he slammed our menus shut. When he delivered our food he said nothing. Nada. It felt completely surreal to me as a former server. I was really about to leave him no tip but then he did the right things- shockingly, he checked on us a few minutes later, and then again about halfway through our meal. We ended up leaving him a normal tip because, in the end, he did the perfunctory things a waiter should do. He seemed friendly with other people who were drinking bottle after bottle of sake, so we imagine it might have had to do with the fact that we weren't spending a ton of money. We will give them a try again, but our experience with our server was truly so abysmal I'm not terribly eager to go back for fear I'd be seated in his section again.”

“i enjoy the outdoor seating for summer lunches and adore the option for traditional japanese chabudai seating their sencha green tea is delicious and the lunch bentos are a great bang for your buck. however out of sushi destinations, i wouldn’t really reccomend Yosaku. i tried uni / sea urchin for the first time here and i dont know if it had went bad, but it was like funky spoiled sea water, not to mention the texture ive notice within the past few years they tend to absolutely butcher the fish which just ruins the texture and experience. as you can see in the picture of the tuna avocado rolls in the bento box”
