The Railpenny Tavern is an American restaurant in the Epping neighborhood of Epping.
“Have dined here a couple times and the food was delicious, great service and cozy atmosphere. When it came time to need to host a private event here I couldn't be happier with how Kate and her team handled everything. Kate cares and it showed from our first conversation, during the meeting to plan, communication in between and wrapping things up after the event. Her staff working the event were also very friendly, efficient and kept things running smoothly. You can absolutely trust her and her team to handle your event. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the Railpenny Tavern that day and wanted to come back. We couldn't be happier with how our everything turned out. Thank you Kate and team! We'll definitely be seeing you again:)”
“BEST DINING EXPERIENCE TO DATE! From the upscale atmosphere offering acoustics paneling in the main dining hall to family friendly waitstaff that provokes attentiveness and warmth and an easy to order menu that strikes quality and quantity at a fine dining status. Easily the next spot I’d bring company to in the area! (Jackie, congratulations on the twins and enjoy your one night a week out of the house, we’ll be back on a Tuesday to see you! Also, to the young girl serving the crowd, your pleasant personality for a small interaction could make anyone feel as though you were serving us straight from your kitchen, it was a pleasure!)”
“Very cool spot right off 125/27. The decor is adorable. Very taverny but not raucous. I took a chance on the pork tenderloin and it was slightly undercooked and not very "cajun" To be fair, tenderloin is a tough one to cook. A few minutes too long and you will have shoe leather. Dijon cream sauce was awesome. Steak Au Povire was 10/10. Roasted squash chucks are fantastic. Deserts were super fun. Sadly, our server forgot to tell us the creme brulee was 86'd until after we ordered it. $1 oysters on Tuesday and a few interesting burgers will bring us back for sure.”
“I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to share it. We ordered the Roasted Statler Chicken Breast and the Blackened Haddock Tacos, and unfortunately, both dishes fell far below expectations. The Roasted Statler Chicken Breast was one of the blandest dishes I have had this year. It lacked seasoning, flavor, and any depth of taste. I genuinely found myself wondering how this item continues to remain on the menu in its current form. A dish at this price point should be memorable for the right reasons, but this one was simply forgettable and disappointing. The Blackened Haddock Tacos were not much better. When you order something described as blackened, you expect bold flavors and well-balanced seasoning. Instead, they tasted underwhelming and failed to deliver the flavor profile that the name suggests. What made the experience even more frustrating was the pricing. The menu prices suggest a quality dining experience, but the food did not justify the cost. Paying premium prices for meals that lacked basic seasoning and flavor left us feeling that we had wasted both our money and our evening. I understand that everyone has different tastes, and restaurants can occasionally have an off day. However, based on this experience, this was one of the worst meals I have had this year. Unfortunately, this visit has convinced me that I won't be returning. This was my first visit, and it will also be my last.”
“The only reason I give service 3 starts is because our waitress was a doll (I wish I knew her name). This was such a disappointing experience. We’ve only ever heard good things about the Railpenny and we were surprised to be taken right away on a Saturday. It’s very loud in there (which is not a big deal to our family) and the appetizers and drinks were good. However, we waited over an hour for our food. My family is very chill and patient so waiting isn’t a big deal but this was outrageous. When we finally asked our waitress if our food would be out soon, she said she was just going back to check. Another waiter came to bring us complementary pita bread and hummus because of the wait but unfortunately the bread had a little mold on it. We appreciated the gesture but decided to just leave and go somewhere else. Oh also, at one point my dad saw a couple come out of the single stall bathroom THEN he saw two employees come out of the single stall bathroom. Take that as you will but it gave us the heebeegeebies. The whole hour and 45 minutes we were there, we only saw one table receive their food. Oh AND our bill came out to $70 and we didn’t even get our entrees🙃”
