Fanboy is a Cocktail Bar restaurant in the The Fan neighborhood of Richmond.
“In all of my months coming to Fanboy I have never had a bad experience, ever. The food is amazing. The drinks are phenomenal. The staff and the atmosphere have made me feel so welcomed I joke that Fanboy is basically a living room for me. I will say I’ve personally seen the growth in the restaurant since some of these one-star reviews were posted and it truly is a completely different space. Richmond is truly blessed to have such an establishment in the heart of the city.”
“Fanboy, a gem right by the Diamond. Amazing food cooked up by an awesome chef. New items hit the menu every few weeks and I have enjoyed every dish I’ve tried. The drinks are beautifully delicious and well made. The bartenders also create their own cocktails on the menu, which I absolutely love. Emily, Fawn and Oshane are an amazing crew behind the bar and offer great service. The vibes are on point at Fanboy. Live DJ playing music, great drinks and delicious food.”
“Awesome ambient, love the outside being a white building and the red luminous light invites you in on an adventure. Once you step in the infrastructure of the building is beautiful. The whole place is such a vibe with great drinks and bartenders were so professional making the drinks look like art. The DJ is playing music live and everyone is having a great time. Will definitely be coming back. There’s also a patio you can sit outside.”
“Advertised as a listening bar, but there's not a ton of emphasis on the music element. Decent speakers, low volume... more just background music. Atmosphere was honestly very nice, but don't go expecting to be at a listening bar. Funny, because my brother went when they first opened and said it was so loud he couldn't communicate. So not sure what to think there. Seems to be primarily a Hinge first-date spot more than anything. 3 first dates when my brother and I went, so not necessarily a "third home" type place. More like a fancy dinner/ drinks night out, which is fine! Service was amazing- staff and servers were incredibly kind and attentive. Burger and fries were very solid, and the one cocktail I got was very well balanced, strong, and flavorful. Biggest issue is that I spent $60 on a cocktail, burger, and fries. Shocked me to no end. So although it isn't a return spot and their emphasis seems to be on one-time customers, it's worth checking out at least once.”
“Me, my sister (she also wrote a review), and 3 others went for a friend’s birthday. We brought cupcakes and candles. At some point we lit the candles on the cupcakes and sang happy birthday. When we were handed the bill we were charged a “cake cutting fee” of $50 ($10 a person). We asked why we were charged because we didn’t ask our server (Fawn) to prepare the cupcakes, cut them, etc. She told us the fee was for bringing in outside food. Before we went to celebrate we looked at the website and it said NOTHING about not being allowed to bring outside food, and the server didn’t warn us about the fee when she saw the cupcakes. We walked in with a grocery bag, neither the server nor the hostess warned us about a fee. Even after the cupcakes were brought out they had 4-5 minutes to warn us because we pulled them out, lit candles, sang, and took pictures for a while. It was OBVIOUS we had cupcakes with us. Because we were a party of 5 we were charged automatic gratuity, which was also put on the $50 “cake cutting fee.” At this point we started assuming they purposely didn’t warn us so they could get a larger tip. A few days later we called the manager and he admitted his server was at fault for not warning us but his solution was a future birthday celebration AND HE WONT CHARGE US THE FEE THIS TIME. So basically he offered for us to come back and celebrate and spend another $300 on them. No thank you, my sister recommended this place, she was a regular, and we’re both disappointed. Please don’t visit this place, the whole situation felt VERY shady.”
