After reading countless glowing reviews about Ox & Anchor, we decided to give it a try. Honestly, the reviews were so overwhelmingly positive that we almost wondered if they could all be real. Now, after experiencing it ourselves, we completely understand why. From the moment we called on a busy Friday night, the team was incredibly accommodating and managed to fit us in despite our last-minute request. That level of hospitality set the tone for the entire evening. Our server, Marcus, was exceptional. Professional, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm, he elevated the entire dining experience. It’s rare to encounter service that feels both polished and personal, but Marcus struck that balance perfectly. The food was outstanding. We ordered the duck and the salmon, and both dishes were cooked to absolute perfection. The flavors were incredible, the presentation was beautiful, and the portions were surprisingly generous. Every bite reflected the care and craftsmanship of the kitchen. The ambiance was exactly what we had hoped for—elegant, inviting, and comfortable without feeling pretentious. It created the perfect setting for celebrating such a meaningful occasion. What truly touched us was the restaurant’s kindness when they learned we were celebrating our anniversary. They surprised us with complimentary desserts, a thoughtful gesture that made an already wonderful evening even more memorable. “What a wonderful experience. We are from out of town staying next door at the SLO Hotel for our anniversary. We noted on our reservation that it was our anniversary. They made us truly feel special. We got complementary champagne and a coursed dinner, and a complementary dessert: everything was delicious, the service was exceptional, and we were kinda floored for the consideration. I’m gluten free and they made sure I would be safe. We both got the filet and shared the potatoes. One of the best fillets I’ve had—I think it was the seasoning. I have to say, this is my first stay at SLO and between the SLO hotel and this restaurant, we are really happy with how valued everyone makes us feel. Here is our complimentary mud pie dessert!”

“Brian was a fantastic server! Steaks were just ok, not as tender as a ribeye or flat iron should be. But appetizers (honey lavender goat cheese croquette and ahi tuna crudo) and sides (Brussels sprouts, polenta, Mac and cheese) were excellent. Loved the birthday dessert!”

“It doesn’t give a fine dining vibe, as the decor is rather simple, the bench seat by the kitchen is like sitting in a diner. But the steak…. OMG it was fantastic. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, seared and seasoned to the delight of my taste buds, there was nothing to complain about. The duck was crispy and juicy and the whole meal was one of the best I’ve ever had.”
