Albi; Arabic for ‘my heart’ is the acclaimed debut restaurant from chef/owner Michael Rafidi. Opened in February 2020, Albi has received continued local and national attention, earning mentions on Best New Restaurant lists by Eater, Robb Report, and Esquire, Eater DC Restaurant of the Year in 2021, and earning a Michelin star in 2022. In 2024, Chef Michael Rafidi was awarded Outstanding Chef by the James Beard Foundation. Chef Rafidi takes inspiration from his family’s roots in Ramallah, Palestine, bringing to the table an experience that melds the ancient tradition of the region’s coal-fired cuisine with local, seasonal ingredients and a refined culinary acumen. Wine Director William Simons curates an eclectic, international wine program with extensive offerings from throughout the eastern Mediterranean: Palestine, Lebanon, Turkey. Constantly evolving, the wine list features categories such as Savory Whites, #UnapologeticallyClassicWhiteWines, Donnie Darko, and Smoky Reds - all selected to complement Chef Rafidi’s menus.
“Got taken here for my Bday this past weekend, it's my second time and wow it's just as great as the first time. Service was phenomenal and Lamb amazing. I enjoyed each dish. A wonderful experience. My Partner has a nut allergy and they accommodated so well for him. Our server walked us through the menu and ensured each dish was safe for him to eat.”
“I went as a solo diner on a Friday. First to be seated at a way too early 5PM, but was so excited to finally be at Albi. It's always at the top of a places to go in DC, and finally I can understand why. I got the Sofra with the wine pairings. It was a wonderful progression of a meal, with some dynamite/hit you in the mouth flavors. Beautiful spices across the region, with wine pairings that surprised throughout. Each was unbelievably distinct. Every bite was delicious, but the ones that stuck out for me were the Labne Tabat (an unassuming pearl of labne with shallot jam and kumquat slices that burst with citrus - I recommend inverting so the citrus hits your tongue first (a perfect single bite)), the malfouf (cabbages stuffed with crab and rice - it was a delightfully subtle and nuanced ballad in the midst of a flavor bomb set list), and of course Knafeh (a phyllo basket that reminded me of the things I love best of a croissant (butter, it's butter)) (sorry no photos of Knafeh - blame the wine or the butter). Throughout, I rarely had the same person serve me twice. It felt like an entire army focused on delivering a great experience. I also sincerely appreciated Sommelier' Ben's understanding of the region and where the wines were coming from, and the list of them post-meal. If you have a chance, go. Splurge, enjoy, and embrace this wonderful cuisine and hospitality of the team. Shukran habibi”
“The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and both the host and servers were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The food truly stood out with its creativity and unique identity. Each dish felt thoughtfully crafted, offering a variety of flavors that made the overall dining experience memorable. In particular, the sfeeha, hummus, and pita were outstanding—something you simply can’t find elsewhere. The cocktails were also impressive, featuring subtle Middle Eastern influences that paired beautifully with the food and added another layer of enjoyment to the meal. That said, the BBQ lamb kebab was a bit too salty for us, which made it harder to fully appreciate the natural flavor of the meat. Overall, it was a delightful and distinctive dining experience.”
“I’ve dined at Albi four times over the past three years, and every visit has been exceptional. The food is consistently outstanding, and the service is always warm and on point. As someone who doesn’t eat pork or red meat, I’m always drawn to their seafood dishes, and they never disappoint. The trout tonight was excellent, and on past visits the branzino was absolutely incredible. The octopus is another standout and easily one of my favorites on the menu. You really can’t go wrong with the hummus, it’s a must every time. And don’t skip the batata harra! I also love their wine selection. We make it a point to try a Lebanese wine each visit, and it’s always a great complement to the meal. Albi is easily one of my favorite spots in DC!”
“Fabulous dinner at Albi. Came here to celebrate a birthday and had an excellent experience. From the hostess, to the waiter, to the sommelier, the customer service was top notch and on par of what you expect from a Michelin star restaurant. We ordered quite a few dishes and everything was well executed and tasty. Didn't try one bad dish. My personal favorites were the oysters and the stuffed cabbage with beef cheek (picture doesn't look like much but it was amazing). The kibbeh naya was a unique dish for us...similar to beef tartare but not quite the same. The lamb kebab was delightful and probably my biggest recommendation for entrees. We also got a bottle of a red Palestinian wine. Woowwww blew us away and not something you can find everywhere. We also got Negroni's and they were excellent. We are a bit of Negroni snobs and always try one at every bar or restaurant we go to if they have it. This one was one of the better ones we've had in awhile. For dessert the knafeh is as good as they say. Snag a reservation and enjoy with friends and family or go treat yourself to a solo dinner. You won't be disappointed! The inside of the restaurant is breathtaking and I love the open kitchen concept.”
