The Dal Rae is the Southern California restaurant where 1950s classics still reign. Lobster Thermidor, Pepper Steak, Chateaubriand, Prime Rib, Fresh Fish, Lamb Chops, Steak Diane and Cherries Jubilee prepared tableside are among more than 100 items on a truly retro menu, complete with some of the city's best martinis. Opened in 1958, the Dal Rae has maintained its original atmosphere, too, right down to a piano bar with live entertainment. And, most important, it has preserved a tradition otherwise found only in private clubs -- knowing its customers by name and treating them like the most important people in the whole wide world. The Dal Rae is located close to the 5 freeway and half-way between LA County, Orange County and The Valley. It is a perfect location for business meetings or entertaining friends and family.
“Came to Dal Rae Restaurant in Pico Rivera with my friends on a Wednesday night, and honestly this visit reminded us why this place is considered one of the classic steakhouses in the SGV. It had been about 6 years since our last visit, but this experience ended up being even more memorable than the first. A huge part of that was our server Derrick. He was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night without ever making us feel rushed. Service like that really elevates the whole dining experience. For appetizers, we ordered the baked scallop Cava de Oro and the tableside Caesar salad for three. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce was rich and flavorful without overpowering the seafood. The Caesar salad was honestly one of the highlights of the night. It was my first time having the dressing made fresh in front of me, and Robert did an amazing job preparing and portioning everything tableside. The dressing was balanced perfectly, not too creamy and not too salty. I also loved the small details like the chilled plates and cold forks. For our entrees, we ordered the Chilean seabass Alla Ben with garlic mashed potatoes and the pepper steak with prime ribeye. The seabass was cooked beautifully and the parmesan crust added a great layer of flavor without being too heavy. The prime ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The pepper topping included garlic, green onions, and bacon, which some people may love, but personally I think next time I would order it without the topping because I usually prefer my steak more simple with just salt, pepper, and maybe a compound butter. That said, the quality of the steak itself was excellent. The steak fries were also surprisingly good. My friends and I agreed that every dish felt balanced and thoughtfully prepared, and we appreciated that the entrees also came with vegetables. For dessert, we got the Grand Marnier soufflé. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare, but Derrick timed everything perfectly and it arrived right after we finished our entrees. The soufflé was outstanding and honestly comparable to desserts you would get at high-end steakhouses in LA or Vegas. Definitely a must-order. The ambiance is really where this place shines. There was live music playing, the lighting was dark and cozy, and the whole restaurant had that classic upscale steakhouse feel. It’s perfect for a date night, celebration, or even a business dinner. Parking is valet only, but at $6 it honestly felt reasonable and convenient. Overall, Dal Rae still absolutely holds up after all these years. Great service, excellent food, classic ambiance, and easily one of the top steakhouse experiences in the SGV. Definitely won’t wait another 6 years before coming back.”
“This is the real deal. American classic five-star steakhouse. Try the relish dish at the bar. I guarantee you're in for a delight. This is a proper fancy dinner place. Probably the best one in the San Gabriel Valley and not some cookie cutter chain. Oysters are amazing, the bacon, peppercorn coated New York strip is probably the best New York strip anywhere in California. The price equals the quality. Trust me”
“I came to this restaurant with my husband to celebrate Valentine's Day💌. I was very surprised by their Cesar salad. Someone specially made it for you. What amazed me was their prime rib. It was really delicious! Their service attitude is very good! Let my husband and I have a great experience here. It's a restaurant that I can go back countless times.”
“Excellent classic steakhouse! A must! The cocktails are refreshing, the appetizers are delicious, and the steaks are phenomenal! Oh, and the service, on point! You don't find this type of class anywhere except for here! What a charm and unique establishment! If you have not been and dined, please do yourself a favor!”
“Old school steakhouse with a nice charm to it. I been here several times for the pepper steak they are know for so I decided to go for lunch for the first time. I went with the DineLA lunch menu, overall satisfying experience but it’s not a place I would go to very often. That’s including for the steaks, it’s a nice once to try type of place but there are better options for same price. Still visit and maybe this becomes your new favorite spot but for me steak is slightly above average and the lamb shank was good but not OMG I need to come back good.”
