“For Sunday brunch, we decided to head down to Carino before the snowstorm headed down. We were greeted by the friendly host and was able to sit at any of the available tables we would like. We tried the Momos, Hakata Tonkotsu “Red & Black” and the Bucatini with Wagyu Meat Sauce. It was good. We then tried the Nutella Basque Cheesecake and it was super good. If you’re down in the mission area, give Carino a try.”
“Really cool and unique spot with creative Japanese–Italian fusion dishes. I really liked the gyosagna - it was the perfect blend of cheesy lasagna and gyoza flavours. There was also a katsu curry carbonara special that we tried; the pasta was cooked really well and the flavours came together nicely. Dessert was also fantastic. I loved the hojicha crème brûlée (maybe I’m a little biased because I really love both hojicha and crème brûlée). Our server (I think Jamie was his name?) was also very attentive. Since we were sharing all the dishes, he brought over extra bowls and utensils without us even needing to ask, and made sure to check in with us throughout the meal to see how we were enjoying everything.”
“Excellent staff, very friendly. Highly recommend the Tonkatsu Curry Carbonara. If you're on the fence, not sure how carbonara and curry will be together, push yourself to give it a try. It is one of those meals that leaves you thinking about it for weeks on end! We had both the Tonkatsu Curry Carbonara as well as the Spicy “Wagyu Bolognese” Miso Ramen, shown in the pictures attached. Delicious!”
“So I brought myself to Carino. It's a charming as hell little venue, with thanks to the skillful crew there, they make the intimate space work well. I didn't catch his name but there is an on-site tea sommelier. He recommended a buckwheat tea from Hokkaido to pair with my meal. I thought the tea wasn't my cup on first taste, but man it really did pair beautifully with the food! I was super impressed! The Japanese typically do Italian wonderfully, so I'm grateful that there was no exception here. The Momo's (a Nepali dumpling) with Pomodoro sauce are legend! They are so good--soft and hugely delicious! The Tonkatsu Carbonara, which my neighbors also both ordered was equally delicious! Very happy, and for reasons of my own doing, very full! Thanks folks!”
“My friend and I recently visited this restaurant and had a lovely experience! Firstly, the service was amazing! The servers ensured that we enjoyed everything throughout our time there and were knowledgeable on the menu. The vibe of the place is rustic and chic. We felt that the restaurant got a bit louder around 7 so we’d recommend an earlier dinner if you want to avoid a bit of noise. The menu items were versatile and fun combinations of Italian and Japanese dishes. We enjoyed each plate that we ordered very much and we will definitely be back!”
