Chef and co-owner David LeFevre and Fishing with Dynamite have been celebrated for serving only the most pristine seafood with accolades that include “Best Oyster Bar” and Best New Restaurant by Los Angeles Magazine, OpenTable’s 100 Best Restaurants in America (2016, 2017 and 2019) and a Michelin Plate in 2019.
“came in for oysters and upgraded to get the Peruvian scallops in the half-shell as well, and they were outta this world delicious!! I'd tried them once before before, but only had one... this time I ate a half dozen, and could've had a dozen more. Definitely put this on your shortlist of places to hit in the Southbay, if you like seafood. the whole menu looked great, but I stayed raw bar today. next visit I'm trying the crabcake.”
“Fishing With Dynamite absolutely blew us away — from the food to the service, everything was exceptional. We started with the seafood platter, which was incredibly fresh, light, and packed with flavour. You could really taste the quality of the seafood — perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. Then came the fish tacos (the black cod tacos), and honestly… the best fish tacos I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and just next level. A huge shoutout to Leena, who provided the most amazing customer service. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely made the whole experience feel special. She knew the menu inside out, gave great recommendations, and made sure everything was perfect without ever being over the top — exactly what great service should be. Thank you Lena”
“Fishing With Dynamite is a seafood restaurant that I absolutely loved and would highly recommend. Our overall experience was excellent — almost every dish we ordered was impressive, and the seafood quality was outstanding. The restaurant kindly surprised us with a complimentary Seared Yellowfin Tuna 🐟, lightly seared on the outside while remaining tender and delicate inside. The freshness of the fish was immediately noticeable and made a great start to the meal. We also ordered the Seafood Platter 🦪🦐, which featured a selection of very fresh shellfish. The oysters and other seafood were high quality and perfect for sharing. Another highlight was the Maryland Blue Crab Cake 🦀, packed with sweet crab meat and paired with a flavorful sauce that complemented it beautifully. For the main dish, we had the Koshihikari Rice with Blue Crab 🍚🦀. This dish really stood out to me — the Japanese Koshihikari rice had an excellent texture, and the sweetness of the blue crab blended perfectly with the rice. The flavors were rich but surprisingly not heavy at all. The only minor downside was that the food took a little while to arrive, but considering how popular the restaurant is, it’s understandable. Reservations are definitely recommended. Overall, this is a seafood spot I would happily return to and strongly recommend to friends.”
“Food is amazing and I am a picky seafood eater. Excellent oysters, very tasty (rather small) lobster roll, crispy chips, tasty lime pie. Very nice design (there are also seats outside), 1 minute away from the ocean. Music, positive vibes. High end in terms of price but good.👍”
“Really good. It's very small and the vibe makes it really cozy and feels like a small East coast beach-side raw bar. The service was very good. All stars there. I think they do a good job of controlling the acidity of their dishes and they have interesting takes on all the old standbys. It definitely borders on michelin-star bait in terms of their choices, but I wouldn't be too worried about their lack of recognition, their offering is already priced as if they have one. Things we liked: the key lime pie. Standout of the meal. The French fries, the clam chowder and the octopus. Not as much: i think some of the stuff on the menu is overpoweringly one note especially for the price. When you're buying what is essentially $40 congee, it would be nice to have something else there to break up the monotony.”
