“Came here for our tenth anniversary, requested a river view seat and was given one. The atmosphere was great. Service was awesome. Food was amazing! We were surprised after our meal with a giant slice of chocolate cake for our anniversary celebration. Everything was delicious!”
“Had an outstanding experience at Smith & Wollensky. From the moment we walked in, everything felt elevated without feeling stiff. The steaks were cooked perfectly, seasoned just right, and served sizzling like they were making a grand entrance. Every bite was rich, tender, and exactly what you hope for when you order a proper steak. The sides were just as impressive and the service was attentive without hovering. You can tell the team takes real pride in what they do. A special thank you to Teresa, the manager, who truly made the experience exceptional. She was warm, professional, and made sure everything ran flawlessly. It’s rare to see leadership that present and engaged. She set the tone for the entire evening. If you’re looking for a classic steakhouse experience done right, this is the spot. We’ll definitely be back. 🥩🔥”
“I’ve come to this restaurant many times in the past and it has always been good. The staff are always amazing. They are always ready to help you. They make great drinks. They’re efficient and they have wonderful personalities. The atmosphere is beautiful. It’s always clean. The music is always really on point. But I have to say the food has gone downhill. I got shrimp that were completely overcooked and very very chewy. The bacon and crab were,as always, on point. My steak came and it was cooked to perfection. It was a great cut and great quality. However, this piece of meat had no soul. I have been raised on and cook enough meat to know that you don’t have to have a topping on your steak to make it great. The seasoning on it should make it great by itself. No love here. Also the potatoes au gratin, are just compacted potatoes that barely had any cheese sauce in it except at the edges. I was highly disappointed. The brussels sprouts and whipped potatoes were quite good. I did also get a giant chocolate cake slice ….and it was so dry. It didn’t taste like it had the sauce poured over it like it says in the menu, but the icing helped me to not choke on the dry cake parts. So …mixed review- there’s just some things that they’ve lost their way on and could always improve”
“Visited with colleagues during a work trip and had a nice overall experience, but with a few mixed feelings. The location and river walk views were definitely a highlight and made for a great atmosphere. Service was professional and friendly. The food itself was decent, but for the price point I expected more. The steak was good, though I’ve honestly had better steaks at less expensive chain restaurants. My biggest disappointment was the ‘Gorgonzola crusted’ steak. Based on the description, I expected an actual crust or sear, but it was really just a creamy Gorgonzola sauce poured over the top. Tasty enough, but definitely not what was advertised. Overall, it’s a good spot for the ambiance and service, especially if you’re entertaining clients or coworkers, but the value didn’t quite match the premium pricing for me.”
“Visited 3 months ago, was memorable so I came back again today. Very disappointing... they had many trainees job shadowing. It was around 7pm, restaurant wasn't busy so wait staff were side chatting, killed the professional atmosphere abit. Ordered a pea soup that arrived in a push cart, soup was badly presented probably cus of the 'vehicle' it arrived in. Side of bowl was stained by soup sloshing its way to the table, it had drips on the side and the base of the plate had soup on it that left a mark on the table. Felt like I was eating at apple bees? Oysters were paper thin. Lobster was dry, sides were heavy on the salt. Overall experience today was really meh. What I once thought was the best steakhouse in chicago, now has set me looking for another contender elsewhere.”
