“My boyfriend took me here to celebrate my birthday and reserved seats at the chef's counter for the omakase experience. Since my birthday fell on a Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have Chef Shiro Kashiba himself behind the counter preparing and serving our meal. The entire experience was incredible. The service was organized, attentive, and made the evening feel truly special. Chef Shiro Kashiba is knowledgeable, entertaining, and incredibly passionate about his craft. With every course, from salmon and tuna to white fish, mackerel, shellfish, and eel, he explained how each piece should be eaten, where the fish was sourced, and even shared personal stories from his career. It felt like he was telling a story through every piece of sushi he prepared, making the experience both captivating and unforgettable. Chef Shiro Kashiba is truly inspiring. It was also wonderful to see that everyone seated at our counter had traveled from out of state just to experience his omakase, which speaks volumes about his reputation. This was, without a doubt, the best sushi omakase experience I've ever had. The fish was exceptionally fresh, and every bite was thoughtfully prepared. The flavors were unlike any sushi I've had before and gave me a whole new appreciation for how extraordinary sushi can be when it's crafted by a chef with such deep knowledge and experience. I would absolutely love to come back again. I left feeling completely satisfied and fulfilled, yet hungry for more of this amazing sushi experience. Thank you, Chef Shiro Kashiba, for making my birthday so memorable!”
“There's no question, if you're in town, this should be mandatory. All the staff is so friendly and genuinely conversational. They're all experts in the food and drink and the totality of that experience as it is put together in the presentation is truly something to behold. This place is all that it is said to be and more. Make your pilgrimage. Shirosan brought sushi to Seattle in 1970 and then beyond that, he took fresh and local and he adapted that to what he couldn't get from Japan and made it into something that is in and of itself beholden to the standard that it was inspired by when it was previously seen as less than. It's pretty amazing to see and experience. And the fact that he still cooks and shows up here and there for dinner services if you're lucky is an incredible treat. If you like food, you're going to have an incredible time here.”
“This was me and my wife’s first omakase experience, and we were absolutely blown away by every bite. I have never tasted such things. Huge sushi fan. Getting to try new things doesn’t happen often, but I got to try some fish I had never tried, and a few other flavors my palate never experienced. Service was fast and friendly and efficient. They let us know which things to try in which order. They certainly give you your moneys worth, as the dishes keep coming! The balance was so good. Nothing too heavy early on. Cannot wait to come back.”
“Remarkable omakase (Japanese: "I'll leave it up to you") where chef curates your meal using choice available ingredients. Servings may be delicate but variety and taste go a long way to please. Each dish is prepared with care and culinary precision, accompanied by brief commentary that makes this a most memorable nigiri experience. We paired ours with sake, but you can also order beer or bolder. One dish featured a fried shrimp whose head we were told could be eaten with the shell; just be careful to chew thoroughly to avoid gagging. Staff was super attentive, eager to help take our photos ("Say sushi!"), even reminded me not to forget my bag on the way out!”
“I am honestly SHOCKED by how highly rated this place was. It had to be the worst omakase I’ve had in my life, especially at the steep price of $160 per person. 1. The rice is super important when it comes to omakase, and the rice was NOT seasoned at all. When it comes to omakase you have to focus on every detail, and I really don’t understand how you can just skip seasoning the rice??? No vinegar, salt, or sugar. Just hard white rice. 2. Service was great, but the atmosphere was more like a regular sushi restaurant with a happy hour menu. I was expecting something more relaxing and quieter. 3. The fish itself was easily forgettable. Nothing noteworthy. Just mostly mediocre salmon and tuna pieces. 4. Chawanmushi was also super watery and barely tasted like anything. Save your money and just go somewhere cheaper. It will honestly prob taste the same anyway.”
