“Stayed for two nights over Mother’s Day weekend, promised to write a review, and I am just getting to it now because we are headed back for two nights this week. Inn is beautiful, old world charm, quiet and romantic, great sitting room upstairs. The owners are really nice people and we enjoyed talking to them. Service was excellent, breakfast, which is included, is extraordinary. Ate dinner there one night and it was fantastic, made another dinner reservation with all my family for Thursday. My wife and I are big fans and expect to stay again in the future.”
“Absolutely wonderful experience. Went right as they opened and my wife and I had the most fantastic dinner we have had in ages. The ambiance was magnificent and we were not able to stop raving about the food; the quality, the taste, the portion sizes! The Gables is now and forever a MUST GO any time my wife and I are down in LBI!”
“Did not stay here but did dine here for my second time. I don't understand a lot of the reviews below. Every single moment of the evening was impeccable. For perspective, I have a long history of experience working in and dining at high end restaurants which helps inform my opinion. The Gables is nothing short of amazing. We started with a delicate amuse bouche that was light and flaky and and nice balance of sweet and salty. My dining partner and I shared a pitcher of the white sangria which was excellent and frankly shocked me because I am generally not a white wine drinker. The fresh bread and butter were rustic and beautiful. I upgraded to the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with an asparagus and mango salad that was so generously sized I could have stopped eating there. My dining partner got the Honey and Pink Peppercorn Duck which she said was the best duck of her life. I got the Pan Roasted Codfish that came with an amazing sauce, duck fat roasted potatoes and hen of the woods. I sincerely think this was better than the famed NOBU Miso Cod. Maybe a little unfair to compare because of the distinctly different sauce profiles but I stand by it. Joshua was knowledgeable about the menu and the sourcing of the ingredients and easily accommodated my dining partners allergies. We happened to dine here during the film festival and Tony Shaloub and his group were also there dining. Their large party did create a small slow down in service which was no big deal for us. It gave us more time to sit and enjoy the stunning garden. A nice touch is that the husband and wife owners make an effort to stop by each table to ensure a great dining experience. The husband (I forget his name, I'm sorry) came by during our meal and I had the please of meeting Sandra the other owner while waiting outside the bathroom. She was not only apologetic about the delays (unnecessary) but more importantly was an absolute pleasure to talk with. She told me all about their menu, the garden, and even introduced me to two of the chefs. We took our chocolate mousse and orange tiramisu to go because we could not fit another morsel in our mouths but both were delicious for breakfast the next day :-) I cannot wait to come back here and would come for the Cod alone.”
“We had an amazing experience at The Gables Inn! Our son and future daughter-in-law were engaged across the street and we had dinner there afterwards. The attention to detail, the friendliness of the staff and sounds of the piano music, made our evening even more memorable. The food was absolutely incredible! Erin our waitress did a wonderful job accommodating all of us! Can’t wait to go back!”
“My wife and I went to dinner here. Pre-fixe menu was $145 per person. With this we received three courses. Prior to ordering we received a warm loaf of bread in a bag and one oyster each. For the appetizers, my wife ordered carrots in a bowl with a sauce and seasonings. I ordered Thai coconut soup. For our main course we both got the bone in filet medium rare. Both steaks were medium well on the outside and medium rare closer to the bone. The bone in filet entree will cost you an additional $45 per person on top of the $145 pre fixe price. With this meal we ordered the only option for alcohol that Gables offers which are red and whites from an NJ winery. The red will cost about $40-$50 per bottle. You can order a half bottle but not a glass. For dessert my wife ordered the banana cheesecake and I ordered the panna cotta. The service was good, the food was fine. I will keep all remaining opinions to myself and if the owner would like to keep it that way I recommend that they don’t reply to my review.”
