“Restaurant Josephine in Auburn completely lived up to the charm people describe. The best way I could describe the atmosphere is eclectic Provençal vintage. Warm, intimate, romantic, and thoughtfully layered. The dim lighting and candlelight gave the whole restaurant such a cozy old-world feel. I started with the Tom Kha cocktail which was honestly one of the most unique cocktails I’ve had in a long time. It was creative, balanced, and somehow both comforting and refreshing at the same time. I also had the Grüner Veltliner which paired beautifully with the meal. Every dish we ordered was genuinely delicious. The duck liver mousse was rich and elegant, the escargot and French onion soup were deeply flavorful and comforting, and the oysters were absolutely divine. The English pea vareniki was one of the standout dishes for me — comforting but elevated and incredibly well balanced. We also shared the steak frites which was perfectly executed and felt very classic French bistro in the best way. For dessert, the tarte au citron was good, though personally not the most memorable part of the meal for me. The dark chocolate & caramel mousse, however, was phenomenal. The contrast between the smooth rich mousse, crunchy toppings, creme fraiche cream, and the raspberry-like fruit element brought everything together perfectly. It was rich without being too heavy and easily one of the best desserts I’ve had recently. Overall, this place feels very intentional, like every detail, from the ambiance to the menu, was thoughtfully curated. Definitely one of the most memorable dining experiences in the Auburn area.”

“We were fortunate to eat here a few weeks ago and let me tell you, Restaurant Josephine did not disappoint. We were promptly seated by one of the owners at a comfortable table upon arriving a little before our reservation time. Shortly thereafter we were greeted by our server who was friendly, knowledgeable, funny and helpful. Everything we ordered, from the bread to dessert was out of this world delicious. Attention to detail was off the charts. Flavors were somehow nostalgic and a breath of fresh air at once. Comfort food at its core. We ordered bread, potato soup, oysters, chicken and vareneki dumplings. The bread was rustic, light but not overly airy. The potato soup was a hug. The oysters were deliciously subtle until you heaped all the accoutrements on them. The chicken was quite possibly the best chicken I’ve ever had. The vareneki was the sleeper surprise. The broth it came in was rich and the dumplings tender. We can’t wait to come back to Restaurant Josephine, next time we’ll bring friends.”

“I consider this restaurant to be one of the best in Northern California. Not only is it extremely charming, but the food, the menu the bar and Service all contribute to an amazing experience worth every penny. I don’t live here anymore. When I fly home I always come to Josephine‘s. A must try.”

“Restaurant Josephine is one of our favorite places for a special dinner. We celebrated our anniversary with an amazing meal and experience! They have a great selection of specialty cocktails, as well as a nice variety of wine and beer. We shared the oysters and the beet salad as a starter and had the halibut and steak frites for mains. Everything was amazing. The frites (fries) are delicious!! We finished with the nectarine cake…mmm! Definitely make reservations. We’ve been a four times now, and everything on the menu is spectacular. It’s fun to go in a group so you get to try more items. Enjoy!!”
