The first ever Shirube was established in Tokyo, in 1968, by Takashi Uno, who quickly earned the nickname 'God Father of Izakaya'. Since then, it has become a business passed down from father to sons, who have grown Shirube to 12 locations all over Japan. Kodai and Yudai Uno have brought Shirube to Santa Monica, for its first ever U.S location. We are a traditional, Japanese Izakaya centered around quality food and amazing customer service. Our signature dishes of Sashimi Mori, Aburi Shime Saba, Corn Ribs, and Mentaiko Udon, are rapidly winning the hearts of all who give them a try. Our ever growing cocktail menu, has a blend of sake and shochu based beverages to delight the senses and offer a unique and memorable take on your favorite drinks. The interior is moody and carefully cultivated to give a cozy, intimate feeling to our diners.
“Showed up for a solo dinner on Monday and was not disappointed. Happy hour pricing all day (Mondays and Tuesdays) meant I got the mid-tier omakase for $70, and it was PLENTY of food for me. I can eat a lot. All dishes were quite good, my favorites being the mackerel, corn-ribs and insanely good wagyu meatball.”
“What a gem find. I’ve always walked by this place but never knew it was izakaya cuz they’re closed during lunch time. I’m so glad i decided to pop in cuz it was great! The corn… omg so good!!! A must try. Their sashimi is very fresh and cut into big juicy pieces. I loved their sushi tacos cuz they were unique; proportion of the fish to rice was perfect. Ambience of this shop is very chill and modern, I highly enjoyed my dining experience here. I would definitely come back”
“Hands down the best Japanese place in Santa Monica, we are always greeted with smile and great service and the place has a great atmosphere. Now the sashimi is so yummmyyy, they are very generous with the portions and the food is presented is such a nice way. We absolutely love this spot! I got a fee pictures of the dishes we’ve tried, they also have amazing corn ribs - not in the pictures - but honestly SO GOOD! The price is very reasonable for the quality and portions, they have happy hour all day on Sunday which is usually when my fiancé and I go, nonetheless it’s great spot for a date with friends and family!”
“I had an amazing time at this Japanese izakaya Shiru-bei at Santa Monica. Every dish was fresh and full of flavor, and the drinks were excellent as well. The staff was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience very enjoyable. The atmosphere was cozy and authentic, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy great food. I highly recommend this spot and would definitely come back again!”
“What an amazing Japanese pub, the food was just super tasty! The corn 🌽 butter, incredible, the fatty blue fin sashimi- melt in your mouth. Pork belly taco, umami! Great selection of saki and beer! 🍺 Hiroki my server was so awesome 👏🏼”
